I enjoyed the review of Japanese ration.
A eddoe is a popular vegetable in Japan.
There are many recipes of the traditional home cooking using a eddoe.
Although I also ate this "Pork and Eddoe" menu, I thought that I wanted a little soy sauce...
parafireboy wrote:Great review and photos! Norton already brought it up, but I too am surprised at the lack of accessory packet w/sauces, etc. It's a little surprising that they don't include a heater of some sorts too. Does anyone know, do they typically just eat them cold? It looks good though!
Japanese ration has two kinds of heating methods.
1. Flameless heater.
2. Boil by a big iron pot, without opening a bag outside dark green. For example, a
Yagai-suigu (field kitchen) etc.
For this boil, Japanese ration has simple composition.
Therefore, drink, flameless heater, chocolate, etc. are provided separately.
A seasoning is soldiers' own account.
Now you have me curious as to what accessories are in the separate pack.

I've reviewed all three and I'm still a fan of the US Asian Beef Strips. All that "sauce" really brings a great flavor to the rice. I think right now it's one of my most favorite MRE menus ever.
Cheers

Thanks housil, parafireboy, laughing_man, and gundog4314 for checking out the review. Thanks laughing_man for that info - I could definitely see the entire ration pack being put in boiling water as-is to cook the items, so it makes sense to include the accessory items separately. Next time I'll use some soy sauce

housil wrote:Great pics and thx for sharing. Why do they have two different kinds of rice with that one serving? Any idea?
It's a very important question.
The main meal at Japanese ration are rice. Meat and vegetables are side dishes.
The old-time Japanese ate much rice and some side dishes. But it has a problem nutritionally.
Recently, the rice which Japanese people eat has decreased.
The Japanese ration of SDF is an old style.
However, Japanese people love carbohydrate.

Japanese ration doesn't have a formal accessories pack.
As for the heater, several kinds are used.
Drink, chocolate, bread, instant noodle, etc. are provided with commercial items.
