obligatory, "that's not a knife"

Dangerous Dave...from your pic, those are some serious blades just to slather some butter on wheat snack bread. Just kidding. I know, I know...Smith & Wesson historically didn't make very good knives, but the M&P line is relatively new...and I was specifically looking for a cheaper folding knife not a fixed blade (too hard to tuck in my pocket ) that wouldn't break the bank. Like I said in my original post, I've broken the blade tips on my last 4 or 5 Spyderco knives. So, I bought the S&W M&P online for only $28...so how can I go wrong? I actually got it yesterday, so I attached a pic.
It's an assisted-opening knife; tanto-style blade; good liner lock; and glass breaker at the back end. Not sure how this is different from an "automatic" knife since it sure feels like one... It also has a lock in the middle of the handle to prevent accidental openings while the knife is clipped in your pocket. It's a pretty small knife actually, 7" overall with a 3" blade...so it's easy enough to toss in your pocket.

For $28 bucks...I think it was a pretty good deal...

kman...I found it on the wonderful world of ebay. Starting bid was only $28 with no reserve and no buy-it-now option. Luckily, I was the only bidder...so I won it for $28.99, to be exact. I wouldn't say it's the best knife I've ever owned, but it's good enough for the price I paid. I've had other assisted-opening knives (Kershaw) before where the internal spring usually wore out after a few months...so, we'll see how long the spring on this S&W lasts.

I'd look into the Ontario Knife Co. Made in the USA and the only REAL supplier of the armed forces here. K-Bar and Cold Steel are just Chinese made garbage, and very overpriced. If the S&W knives are anything like the guns they make then again, overpriced garbage. Here's my baby, OKC USMC fighting knife. Hand made, hardened steel and has been with me since I joined the Navy in 1999.

I meant KA-BAR they are NOT chinese made ripoffs.... plus I don't think the USMC will use chinese crap.....

KA-BAR has been making knives in NY since 1898. Their knives were issued to the USMC in WWII since 1942 also with Ontario and Camillus and Case amongst others,so that makes them another REAL supplier for the goverment.
Maybe you like Ontario,they make good knives too specially for the Army. I have been collecting knives and other militaria for a long,long time and I know ripoffs and crap when I see it... and trust me my friend, the KA-BAR's are good knives made in the good ol' USA.....

Uncle Sam misguided children,the "Teufelhunden's" made it their own knife famous then and now. The company also produce the knife for the Army and the Navy.they have now the newer versions of it but I stick to the classics... ...simply go to their website : http://www.kabar.com

Bypah my bad on the KaBar thing. I was actually thinking of another brand similar to Cold Steel, not like KaBar or OKC. Just beware on e-bay because I know there are a lot of Chinese made KaBar ripoffs there for sure. A had a friend that bought a couple and just one look I knew they were bootleg copies. Thanks for the history lesson, there were some tidbits I never knew!
