Members,
Ye Olde local surplus store wants $8.95 for one Sopacko MRE. This in a town with no less than 5 military installations ( San Antonio, Texas ).

Towns around Bases

Every base is different, Heath. Then there may be State laws also. The Provost from large bases check out all the local surplus shops regularly, and even gives the shops, lists of prohibited items that they may not purchase, and resell, from servicemembers. If you are near Hood, try around there.

That's too bad about buying MREs near the bases. I mean, that's the one area where you'd hope to be able to find some for a decent price. But then again, I guess it's also the one area where they're more likely to be strict about the buying and selling of them.

Well , I feel exactly the same ! There are plenty of MREs selling in ebay at a ridiculous price !
While there are plenty of military version MREs selling at about 30-40 a box , I don't know why someone selling $30+ with only 12 packs of main entree only . Where did the lovely FRH gone ???

I wrote and asked the guy selling the MRE spoon for GBP 0.99 if this was a joke auction. Afterall, it is a plastic throw-away spoon almost worthless. I asked why anyone would pay about $2.00 for it, plus another $4.00 to ship in the UK - was it packed in lead to make the shipping costs so high?
I never got a reply back to my inquiry however.

Wow - check out this one:
Canadian issue MRE field ration meal
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6513703850
It's a single ration from 2001 - Cheese Omlette w/ Salsa. And it can be yours for the low, low price of $24.99 Buy-it-now ($14.99 starting bid). And shipping is only $4.25.
How can you pass this one up?
