2001, after the apes fought the boars, or whatever those 4 legged things were. Dr. Floyd had a great chicken samich, out of the space-age mermite, then the other guy had a ham sandwich. Then they had coffee. Must be cool to be up there, orbiting the moon.
C-rats wrote:Does anyone else remember the "Space Food Sticks" that you could buy at your local market during the APOLLO years? They were sort of like a chewy candy and were actually pretty tasty. They came individually wrapped in a yellow paper & foil wrapper, and were packaged 10 or 12 (I can't remember) per box. I forget who actually made them, but they were real popular with us kids back then (if you had one in your lunch box, you were cooooool, man!). I can't remember any other flavor but chocolate being available. Anyone??
Remember them? I used to take them to school for snacks between classes. I loved the peanut butter and chocolate ones. They, also, accompanied me on many a Boy Scout campout.
Interesting, the only thing I've ever had that was space food is the ice cream/ice cream sandwich. Both really good of course, but MRE desserts are better. I'm just not sure I need some space food sticks, but they might go well with the collection.
I'm happy to report Space Food Sticks are still sold in supermarkets here in Australia:
The packaging is kinda lame - surely it should have a picture of astronauts or something? But I guess that shows how little interest people have in the space programme these days.
Wow...you guys have all the good stuff down there (except for the french fry vending machines) - kangaroo cookies with hazelnut dipping sauce right next to Space Food Sticks! You'll have to buy some space food sticks and let us know how they taste.
