Now I know why these things ended up on the Civilian market.

Failed vacuum seals & leaking Tobasco bottles. They need to bring the packets back, I suppose. As fun as those little bottles are, they're less reliable. At least the return of them. Old school ones never really did that.

Interesting
I still have 2 unopened cases of 2019 pack date.
Never had any spoiled seals in the other two cases I clobbered over last couple years. Mine came from the seller in Alaska at the time.

Those 2019s should be okay. I've seen 2021 and 2022's both having these issues with the vacuum seals. Hoping the latest ones with the new menus are in better shape. Perhaps these were factory rejects that failed inspection, and were tossed... possibly fished out of a dumpster, so to speak. Then resold. No exact answer, but that's possible.

Sorry to say but these MCW are genuine issue, wrote a bit a about the bad seals and so on in a post this winter.
The USMC had many many bad MCW in theire lot in Norway, they talked about a new type og sealing testing and cheaper packing causing the trouble.
I have about 25 cases of 2021 and 2022 MCWs (al comes from the USMC) and do find bad tabasco and broken vacum on the main meals.

The 2019s i have have no problems also these are genuin issued

cheers ken

Hey Ken!

I must have missed your post on your MCWs, gotta go back and read.

Thank you for clarifying and helping me learn. Too bad that's what is going on for the quality. This seems almost unacceptable for a US ration though and very much hope they can fix the issue and maintain the lower cost of production.

Those 2019s were always solid and maybe it's worth just getting those for now. Cranberries might be a bit dry, cheese a tad darker.. stuff like that. But in comparison to the new ones, it might be a worthwhile trade off. Along with the price likely being lower.

Thanks for that info. Didn’t know those newer ones were prone to seal issues!
Won’t look to pick any up. At least at the prices they ask.

I managed to snag an case of 30 those from adventurenutrition.co.uk last year for about a pound each, mid 2025 BBE.

Should also note I had an case of 2019 MCW and they all seem fine, so far at least.

Ive also noticed a huge influx of these rations across various markets, here in the UK at least, a lot of websites and resellers have gotten them.
