Wow...talk about long-term storage testing!

I'm impressed ---- especially since all the cans have been stored up in the owner's house & garage attic.

With all the heat accumulation in an attic, I doubt you could find a worse place to store anything considered "perishable".

There used to be a page on Mountain House's site that said that over extended periods of time (longer than the standard 30 years) the first thing to go would be the color from the vegetables and sauces. This makes sense as there is basically no water for the chemical changes to occur where nutritional content would be lessened over time like in regular canned food.

Basically, they sell food that has suspended chemistry packaged in an environment that is impossible for bacteria to grow in. If the can is never compromised, it's good to go. My SHTF stash is about 3 years worth of Freeze Dried (mostly MH) and dehydrated in #10 cans. This is fantastic news for me as I bought a 10 acre bug out location up-state last year and plan to store these cases of food in a place that will have little ability to control heat, humidity etc.

Same situation here in the UK a decade or so ago "health and saftey" declared that farm shops could no longer sell their produce to the public directly as the government had no
control over what was being sold (thanks to euro regulations), and so gave english farmers incentives to grow rapeseed for bio-diesel, to which over 80% of our crop growing farmers did.

Over the past year or so while we hit our econimic downturn and food became expensive to import (which 90% of it now is) our gov tried to persuade farmers to start growing crops again and also allowed them to
sell local fresh produce from their farms again, eggs,milk,cheese, meats ect.. of course at around 500% marked up prices because farm food is "green" and "sustainable" also its now fashionable too.

Living in the lakes district of the Uk meant untill these bans were put in place most of our foods were from local farms, every farms butter, cheese was different and so much better than what you buy in supermarkets.
Just makes you think WTH governments are thinking sometimes, cutting off our own internal foods supply chains ect...

On the other hand though, they do provide MRE's, Ratpacks ect...well kind of
