2022 Meal, Cold Weather MCW Case is Still the Same
Quick post,
This August 2022 MCW case is no different than 2021. No new menus, yet.
Got a 2009 case once in 2017. Wish I'd realized how rare they were. They were the same exact menus... MCW really hasn't gone through much in the way of changes since then. Oriental Chicken did used to have a cookies & cream ice cream sandwich back then. It was rancid. So they weren't all too shelf stable.
When a later 2022 case turns up, or 2023, I'm curious if it will have the new menus.

Its possible you got one of the last "old" menu lineup cases? The menu sheet on the DOD site did say "late" 2022, which I would assume would be Q4, and with august right at the end of Q3 I think a month or two later pack date would definitely have the new ones. Exited for menu 6... biscuits and chicken stew... and a marble cake?!?!

Thank you Amelie!
I got a marble pound cake in the seafood chowder, but perhaps marble cake is different!
Was fun to just eat some MCWs for lunch & whatnot. Found two different orange drinks. One with much less maltodextrin and 50 less calories. Gotta come back with a picture.

Oh marble cake and pound cake are prolly the same, in england we call all cakes just cake... but a pound cake I think is more a US word? Not sure. Either way a marble cake is my favorite... vanilla and silky chocolate all in onesteve1989 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 1:58 pmThank you Amelie!

Folks, the seller is fresh outta these 2022 MCWs, at least according to their shop. Just in case, here's a link:

At $400 USD shipped for two cases, I didn't think twice about buying. MCW's usually go for $150-$250 a case. Sometimes cheaper, but it's not always so common. Unfortunately, they can go up to $300 a case at times. That's just too much for me. To each their own on how they spend their money, and sometimes if the well is dry and one has a hankering, $300 might not seem so rough. Especially for overseas.
Amelie, the marble pound cake is a real treat. Hoping you can find a reasonable source for them. Just looked it up and found 6 for $25 from a seller on ebay.

Oh boy! They have spiced pound cake. Anyone remember how good those were when they still had the trans fat? Well, they're still good, but the texture and shelf stability of those older ones are just unmatched. I have a fond memory or two of eating an old school spiced pound cake.
Blue87fj, you're one of maybe 3 people on planet earth who likes the seafood chowder! Why on earth did they put those demented little shrimp in there? Even more disturbing than the little almond slices in a Country Captain Chicken.
Tex, you've never had a MCW? I do believe you need to give one a try. A great one to start with is Beef Stew.

I got the spiced pound cake in the second MRE I ever tried! Chili mac from ~2015! It was soooo good, bet that was back in the trans fat days!steve1989 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 2:14 amAmelie, the marble pound cake is a real treat. Hoping you can find a reasonable source for them. Never tried the US Marble cake, Im sure shipping to the UK would cost me an arm and a leg! I did get a Marble cake in a 2021 ORP, not sure what the deal with this is because it was *supposed* to be a vanilla cake from jomipsa... never seen another one of these either... almost feel bad for eating it!

Re: 2022 Meal, Cold Weather MCW Case is Still the Same
nope, it's only very recently that i was even slightly interested in modern day rations or what they taste like aside from keeping a fresh case or two for emergencies
i'll keep an eye out, i saw those two cases for $399 that i assume are the ones you bought and while intrigued i had just bought a case of halals. slowly working through them now, had lamb and barley for lunch today as a matter of fact. needed salt and pepper, otherwise pretty decent
