1980(ish) Natick Labs Prototype Emergency/Assault Packet (Marine Corps)
1980(ish) Natick Labs Prototype Emergency/Assault Packet (Marine Corps)
Rations Gods smiled upon me today for a myriad of ration things but, this one is off the charts:
1979-1980(ish) Prototype that Natick field for trial.
Digital Commonwealth photo: https://picryl.com/media/emergencyassau ... per-24a2e6
Natick's Report: https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/pdfs/ADA082226.pdf
The Ration itself:
Seems to be a straight forward 1980 vintage MCI accessory pack but, may have a ziplock bag enclosed for re-hydrating the main (have not opened it)

Unbelievably no! I fell into this by accident. I live close to Gettysburg PA, but not really a big "Civil War" collector/guy. My historical interest is usually Span-Am war going forward. This weekend had a large Civil War Militaria Event, and my wife and I are starting a collection of "pre"-Civil War US Arms, specifically those manufactured in and by the US Arsenal in Harpers Ferry Virginia. Usually these "Civil War" type militaria swap meets have some bleed over going earlier. One of the off-rooms this guy has a box full of random ration "stuff". 66 MCI (accessory pack unmolested, cans fine), Early 42ish K (non-morale box) although its trash, random B units from Korean Era 5 in 1's, bunch of post 72 MCI Accessory packs, just "stuff". And this "Prototype" from Natick.. I shit a brick to be frank, expect at least $500 usd for just the "prototype" and would have paid it. He asks me, "take everything for a $100"... Thank you ration gods!!

Sure but its nothing overtly special, kind of a general walk from the M1916 "kit" going forward. The older I get, the more I realize how important the logistics of Meals come into everything and are a direct representation of that Military:
The general walk from WW1 to 1980:
Evolution of the MRE from 1980 to Current:
Prototypes and "Emergency/survival" and Misc MRE variants (LRP's, TOTM's) and Misc Foreign
The Misc Bits of interest
But, the "Bunker" holds a good deal....
You can't make it out in the photo but, top shelf is also stacked top shelf to ceiling in UGR's behind the freeze dried stuff..
