D Ration... real?
D Ration... real?
I’m on the fence about this. It looks the part but isn’t wrapped in foil and I can’t find any others like it
it is also strangely devoid of a manufacturer

I’ve seen one like this for sale before, my gut instinct told me it was fake. It almost looks artificially weathered to me, but I’m no expert on these either.
Re: D Ration... real?
i reached out to so many of my contacts that one guy asked another guy who turned around and asked me about the damned thing!
out of my top 3 guys to listen to we're all somewhere around, "looks legit, maybe it's just between grease paper and label specifications"
went ahead and bought it, will post further, better pics when it arrives
the more i think about it being a fake the more i lean towards it being real. why fake an unknown or largely unknown example? if you're gonna fake something it seems to me you'd want to base it on a well known example, whether for reenacting or for trying to dupe somebody

Re: D Ration... real?
Is this from that gsrelics guy on ebay? He is the one who was pedaling those sketchy "WWII ration gum boxes" that were fake, and who also sold Steve1989 a fake K ration supper unit. He also has some "original" sealed k ration biscuits, which look just like some he is selling with some repro K rations. I would stay away from anything he is selling personally. He might have also been the guy trying to sell those "original" early war C ration components last year on etsy?
Re: D Ration... real?
no, this is from one of my WWII resellers that always gives me first dibs on his ration items
this came from a lot of 3 Ks and 3 Ds and all the rest were legit. he still has one early breakfast K and one early hershey D to list if anybody needs them be on the lookout on ebay
it being from a lot where everything else was completely legit and early also gives me hope that it is indeed authentic

That gives me more reason to think it’s real for sure. Would be awesome if it was a really early bar, a great addition! Definitely keep us in the loop

Ok, the background looked just like that wood table the gsrelics guy takes all his photos on. Glad to hear its from a reputable seller.texrdnec wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 7:33 pmno, this is from one of my WWII resellers that always gives me first dibs on his ration items

Found this on K-Ration.info. Looks similar to yours.
"The new U.S. Army Emergency Ration presented in an article of the Life magazine. Note that the ingredients are not listed on the label. The bar is dated June 1937 and indicates that this is from an experimental procurement for testing prior to acceptance."

Re: D Ration... real?
the hershey D bar from this lot is up on ebay now
Re: D Ration... real?
In hand now and it is foil backed. I have no doubts about it even though having no mfg listed is odd
