Something hurt my stomach!

Post by Ahamby » Fri Apr 12, 2019 10:04 am

Good morning from the east coast. Has anyone ever noticed any discomfort from eating a first stike bar? It was from a 2016 ration, looked fine, tasted good. It was my first time trying. I split it with a coworker and he was having stomach discomfort this morning too. We had it yesterday afternoon. I don't think it could have been spoiled, but wonder if it is something in it. Thoughts? Thanks in advance everyone.

I see that people that not have or eat military ration on a regular basis get a few stomach issues.
this is normal because the food in rations are pretty heavy and fortified with vitamins and so on..

we see this now and then in the Norwegian national guard when they are in for the annual year training and have to eat rations for a few days 8)

cheers ken

Ive had the occasional stomach issue from mre, but nothing serious. Im surprised its the first strike bar, they are not much different than any energy bar that you can buy everday at your local shop. Maybe the preservatives didnt agree with you. 2016 is within exp date, but it may have been in somebodies hot car trunk for 2 years, you never know.

No, the only problem I have with the FS Bar, is getting the Cran-Raspberry or Chocolate one in an MRE, instead of the Apple-Cinn. one which sems to be in 97% of MRE's. Getting a Cran-Raspberry FS Bar is harder than Charlie finding the golden ticket in a Wonka-Bar. Damn
After the Chicken and the Egg, came the "Omelet"!

Thank you everyone for the replies. I think I was just being a wuss.... I have some international rations on the way that I intend on trying. I saw where some people take charcoal tabs to help in case you get a hold of something bad. Thoughts?

Completely useless, save yourself the trouble of eating them when you want to throw up
Charcoal is useful for *some* types of poisoning, most notably alcohol, and it's just part of the treatment, but it has been blown out of proportion since its "organic" "activated" "detox" and when you put it on smoothies it turns them black making the fancy as fuck
Alas, since the placebo effect works, if someone wants to take them anyway because they feel better that way, go for it, since the side effects are negligible if taken within the reasonable...
I have Spanish rations permanently, feel free to ask :!:

We use (medical) charcoal as a standard treatment for oral poisoning in professional EMS but it won´t work against food poison caused nausea etc.
