PUERTO RICO 2016 mre advice

Post by BoloPR » Mon Oct 01, 2018 9:40 am

ADDED PICTURES FOR BETTER HELP Hope everyone is having a good day.

After hurricane maria hit the national guard and the army came to supply water and food.

I came across two A cases made in 2016. They are military MRES with the DPt of Defense insignia and unlawful sale wording and such.

I don't know what to do with them.

Should I sell them individually? Should I store them for three decades and see what happens? Can I even ship them considering I'm in Puerto Rico and they contain the flameless heaters? I want to sell or trade them but I don't know what can I do considering my location

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you have the full cases, you should be able to see the manufacture date (as a code with the last digit of the year and the "julian" day, such as 6226--2016 on the 216th day). Then there is an Inspect date which is 3 years from manufacture (stated as MM-YYYY). Additionally, the case should have a small red/orange sticker about 1/2" square. It is the "TTI" sticker and the center circle should be lighter than the outer circle. This helps indicate the conditions of storage over the life of that case. You can find the details about there elsewhere here on MRE Info.

I wouldn't think there would be any problem with shipping as they get shipped all the time. I believe I have read that the heaters are not restricted for transport/shipment when they are inside an MRE. They really only become a problem when they are shipped in bulk by themselves. Others may be able to confirm or deny that. Additionally shippers should be able to tell you.

A case of 2016 (2019 Inspect) will probably fetch at best around $60-70 delivered, so take that into account if shipping outside of PR. Something like Craigslist for a local sale would probably get you the best money for the least work. Unless PR is awash with cases of MREs from the same source.

Good luck.

I have two A Cases strapped and sealed.

FIRST A CASE:
Date Pkd/Lot: 6263-001
INSP/TEST: 09-19 07:45
MENUS: 1-12 Case A

There is a white Sticker with the A on the top right corner, a bar code and a bunch of letters and numbers, dont know if thats important. also right under that sticker there are two barcodes that are part of the box itself and are surrounded by bold outlines.

SECOND A CASE:
Date Pkd/Lot: 6263-001
INSP/TEST 09-19- 07:44
Menus: 1-12 Case A

After watching two Youtube videos explaining the TTI seal I'm happy to say these were well stored and that I stored them in the same manner for a year now. Extremely brand new looking sticker.'

DO you have an idea how much these sell for individually?

Where I am in Washington State, individuals are easy to find for $7-8 each when in date. Price goes down if they are old, unless so old that they are "collectible". That price COULD be lower that other places as we have Ft. Lewis here, so the supply may be greater. That's a "cash and carry" price from gun shows, flea markets, Craigslist. The "surplus" stores ask a little more, I think.

Location does matter. If there are a lot of MREs floating around PR still from the hurricane, then prices will be lower.

I see ASKING prices of $8 - $9 on ebay PLUS shipping, but I kinda doubt they sell very often at that price. You can always check SOLD/ENDED auctions on eBay to see if I am right or wrong about that as a national trend.

Also, you can get full, fresh cases delivered in the continental US for $70 from Amazon (don't know if that would apply for shipping to PR).

WIll do what I can with one of them. And I will keep the other for decades to come and see what comes off it. Should be exciting to see what happens.
