2001 USA MRE Menu No. 1 Grilled Beefsteak

Post by Cortexmelon » Wed Jun 27, 2018 6:07 pm

I keep taking pictures of my rations i've been collecting, but I havent been posting them on here! So i'm gonna try to throw more of my reviews up on here for anybody that cares to hear my reviews lol.

* The Main Entree was alright, still good. I feel like the chemical taste was alittle overpowering at times. It could've just been due to age of course, if anybody knows. (The FRH worked incredible as well, heated up both the steak and beans perfectly)
* The beans were still good as well, but as i'm not good with spicy foods, and am a complete wuss when it comes to spicy, so it wasn't for me lol.
* The slim jim was still perfectly fine, tasted like it was made yesterday. Alittle weird they put in a jerky when you already got a beefsteak going on in there that kinda has that beef jerky taste to it, but thats just me.
* The grape beverage was great, I dont ever seem to get this one. seems like this one has gotten more uncommon overtime sadly.
* The coffee was capult. molded together (no pun intended) by dry mold, not doing it lol. Funny enough, everybody here talks about the red pack being molded all the time. I've had over 10-12 diffrent red pack rations, and only 2 have been moldy? Maybe i'm just lucky lol (I however dont like coffee, so maybe not lol)
* There was a mystery pouch inside with no writing on it aside from a lot code on it. Turned out to be tootsie rolls! The most suprising thing? Completely fine! They bent and were 100% chewy, like they were made yesterday. Had a slight older taste, but it was so faint, it wasn't even noticeable when i ate them
* Crackers and peanut butter were as expected, perfect as usual. I dont know what was up with the crackers, but they were super flavorful compared to the standard MRE cracker? I've heard Steve1989 say the same thing about cracker right around the year of this MRE too, strange.

Overall, a pretty decent ration! The chemical taste of the main entree was alittle offputting, but otherwise, some good stuff!

Interesting! Quite nice to see such a piece of meat in a ration... Was it a slice of meat or more like a patty?
I have Spanish rations permanently, feel free to ask :!:

It was defintely alittle bit in the style of a patty like the hamburger patty would be in the other menus, but it was defintely alittle different in the texture and taste spectrum. It honestly had the taste of like a big piece of moister beef jerky

Looked good! Must have been stored well for mostly everything to be edible still. Shame about the coffee but yeah, you must just be lucky because they rarely hold up more than a few years. Awesome find and awesome review!
