Hello,
I am a new member to the mre info community. I was wondering after watching many of your reviews, where everyone gets there mre serving trays. I have a imp on hand I would like to review, but I want to get a serving tray first.
Thank you for your time,
Gabzmre
Hey man,
I’m sure someone has one laying around, but if push comes to shove you can find a two pack online (amazon) I think for like 25 bucks shipped.
Also if there are any near by military surplus stores you might be able to find yourself one there or a mess kit of sorts. ( you can also find a canteen and military mug I’m sure! )
I do reviews, and although I am trying to upgrade my setup the 25 dollar trays work amazing! They smudge easily but nothing you can’t fix with wiping it down with a thin layer of olive oil first to protect from finger prints. Let me see if I can find a link for you brother.
Killed by rancid pound-cake. I know that will be on my tomb stone.
I own two used USGI trays that I bought off of ebay. The Amazon reviews seem to imply that these look the same but are not same (Light clad trays vs solid steel for USGI). Have you tried any direct comparisons to see how they measure up?
As a side note, I can't believe I've lived for so long without a couple of proper mess trays. Such a convenience.

I went for something different. I got a brand new 1970s UK military mess tray from Austria.
I kept my eyes open at thrift shops, and places like Salvation Army and Goodwill stores. It took a while, but I finally found a full size tray, and a smaller one for my son for $2USD each. I've actually found lots of interesting things at these places, like mess kits and components canteens, and more.
It's really helped to keep my interest as I follow my wife around these places instead of dying of boredom like before
