Ingredients blacked out? 1986 MRE fruitcake.

Post by JT1991 »

Hi everyone,

Today I received an MRE from 1986. Everything is in great shape!

The fruitcake that came with it had the ingredients blacked out. Anyone know why this was done? Thanks.

You know it was maybe something dumb, like someone just did, for no reason. I don't know why anybody would hide it.
Killed by rancid pound-cake. I know that will be on my tomb stone.

Perhaps they had left over boxes from a previous batch for a different type of fruitcake. Instead of throwing them away, they reused them by covering the ingredients?

It's interesting that's for sure.

That makes sense. You're probably right. I took a closer look at the box and there seems to be a bit more glue than usual on the seal. Like it was resealed.

I work in a food and beverage wholesale place and we get similar things, if an ingredient or description changed but a supplier has thousands of now obsolete packs left for something, sometimes they just stick a sticker over it or blank it out/ replace with the new information
