Mpitt - Thank you, Sir! My passion for the well being of our service personnel goes back to my youth... it grew stronger (or maybe my anger grew) during Operation Iraqi Freedom when my son and his fellow soldiers where not properly equipped... dumb ass rumsfeld even made a smart ass comment of the lack of equipment available to our guys in Iraq... I purchased numerous set of Motorola 2-way radio so my sons platoon could communicate with each other - F'n Amazing!... later read where other parents were purchasing armor plate and other gear... it got so bad a senator was pushing rumsfeld to get off his ass and reimburse the soldiers - http://www.nbcnews.com/id/9524109/ns/wo ... ursements/... my apologies, its my day to bitch... the pizza deal is another example of NOT doing right for our guys and gals in uniform.

And Alohakid, I am so sorry to hear about your experience with the equipment shortages for your son in Iraq - I hope he and his fellow soldiers got through their tour safe & sound. I remember hearing about that - it was 10 years ago now.. shortages on body armor - those poor men & women not getting the gear they need so family were having to pitch in just to get the equipment/protection that the government should have had these soldiers covered head to toe with. And I agree, US govt really could step up their game on food quality and something enjoyable to eat like MRE pizza as a morale boosting staple in MRE's - but it looks like there won't be any on the 2018 menu lineup - while Norway has them with their much higher quality freeze dried meals.. US govt always goes to the lowest bidder and quite frankly, I think the US soldier deserves a better ration with far wider menu variation than the US MRE. Don't get me wrong, the US MRE is what got me into rations and I love it to where I eat easily 1-3 a week (because they are cheap and convenient mostly) - but I would be lying if I said it was even near the top of the list in quality/palatable.

Didn't we have a separate thread somewhere on the forum about this same topic? I thought the reason why they can't develop it is because of the short time span of the ingredients or the shelf life of the dough?

To me it would be easier to make a Pizza Pocket similar to the sandwiches we find in FSR's and go that route. The idea and design are there, but Natick Labs just needs to expand on it. Doesn't have to be pretty or taste like it came out of a brick oven but just needs to be palatable. My biggest concern is the packaging.

The foil lined pouches could easily trap moisture in there and cause any pizza to go bad real quick especially in high temps.

Aloahkid- I share you sense of frustration. Not to derail this thread but I was there in 2004, in Kuwait when Rumsfeld made that famous quote at a town hall meeting. I can remember my unit was there with a Armored Cav Brigade from Kentucky, and one enlisted soldier asked that question. Next thing myself and everybody else knew it was all over the media and that poor kid vilified by the mainstream media. Well, all of us joe's knew Rumsfeld wasn't being honest. Because that unit and our unit were scavenging steel plates and everything else in Kuwait before going north into Iraq on our vehicles. We also had a lot of shortages on everything else. Later in my tour my unit had up-armor kits for out vehicles, it just takes time, just like everything else in life. I'm sure Natick Labs may figure this out.

Ummmmmmmmm right........ met Rumsfeld once during OIF1 and he had cold weather boots some of us didn't and one of the paratroopers being the mouthy lot we are asked him why he had goretex boots and we didnt his reply was "cause im the secdef"

Now goretex boots are a luxury item and I would have been more pissed if I didn't have them in Afghanistan, but not having body armor seems like some media BS everyone had plates and body armor and I mean everyone even the paper pushers, now some idiots bought dragonskin because it was rumored to work better but that was on them.

This was in country hence why he was wearing desert cold weather boots. Now if were talking up armor for vehicles yeah that was a shit show.
