MH is great, but have you ever had a Norwegian one? To me they are even.
MH products readily available in some, but all Wal*Mart stores. Around $6 per large size(2-serving) packet, in commercial packaging. The USGI LRRP Rations are extremely hard to find, but they pop up on EBAY now and then. Mostly from around Ft. Bragg, NC.

After the Chicken and the Egg, came the "Omelet"!

Sitting on this case of LRRP's for a couple years now. Busted out a case last hunting season. Not for sale. If I get lucky on my trip to Ft. Benning and Ft. Bragg next month, I'll let yall know.

I hear Mountain House is good. Not sure where I read it, though.

Re: Freeze dried?
I agree Mountain House is very good, just tried the MH Scrambled Eggs with veggies/sausage/hash browns last week for a quick lunch. Paired them with some of the new chipotle tortillas that are coming out in the MRE's. The chipotle tortillas have a nice light spicy taste to them and don't fall apart as quickly as the normal tortillas.
The best deals on MH foods are at Wal-Mart by far. Picked up two of the above mentioned breakfast entree's for under $5.00 each. Both were about 2 serving sizes. Not sure of the sodium content.

MH is very good indeed, even 10 years after expiring date!
Sodium contents don't bother me when I am outdoors. You sweat a lot and lose sodium.
Unfortunately when I am indoors some of the deserts make my stomach burn.
Real Turmat (DryTech) is also good. However, avoid the freeze dried cod stew! It tastes like carton dust mixed with fishmeal and paper glue.
Travellunch is not my favorit, although they do have some good meals.
The best imho is Adventure Food, made by a small Dutch company. They provide also meals for the Dutch Marines Extreme Cold Weather Rations (ROEK's).

For lunch to yesterday, Mountain House Sweat and Sour Pork... tad disappointed but 2.5 serving went down well with an adult beverage.

Re: Freeze dried?
I prefer Mountain House for their north american style menu items but its too bad we dont get to see some of their UK offerings. I have a tote full of Harvest Foodworks dehydrated / freeze dried food entrees from the early 90's, problem is they call for a 10 minute plus simmer time on the stove vs the more current add water and wait style offerings from the main brands. I haven't found fault with Backpackers pantry or Alpineaire but at $10+ per packet for an entree this stuff is rapidly getting tough to afford.
I do highly recommend getting an insultaor for the meals while rehydrating, so nice to come back to piping hot vs luke warm depending on your camping location. IE the Optimus heat pouch or MEC (mountain equipment co-op, a Canadian retailer) heat pouch.

Re: Freeze dried?
I like mountain house the best out of what I have tried so far. I had the MCW chicken and rice last night for dinner, that was a lot of food. In the past I have had the beef stew, beef stroganoff, spaghetti, lasagna, chicken breast with mashed potatoes, and chili mac. They are all good, especially if your really hungry. I usually add about 2 oz less water than recommended and keep the hot sauce handy.
