Although I collect US Rations, I have never seen those before! I have no idea how old they are, but I guess the dark brown one is from the early eighties! Real interesting!
hi norge,
I had the 'pleasure 'of trying the chile lrrp in 1971, it was inedible. no matter how long you soaked the beans, they were hard as rocks...
they have been much improved since then
Nice collection !!!
Good stuff! Those accessories look just like the ones in the 1960-1980 MCIs (c-rations). Did you try any of it? I tried one of those chocolate discs from 1978 and it wasn't bad...not really great, but still edible.
As I recall, the LRRP I had came in a different bag, sort of cloth covered, with alu foil/plastic layers... but that was a very old one, probably late 60's, early 70's (it was new when I ate it...)
I was in the Navy then, and we used to carry UDT/SEAL types, do insertions/retreivals etc. I think we traded some coffee for the LRRP's. They got the better of the deal...
I can provide a little input here seeing as how I traded these LRRPs to Norge. The one with the grey/green bag is from the late 70's, about 1978 as I recall. I carried that one around for a while before it ended up in a box. The one with the brown packaging I got just before I was medically retired. So, that would have been late in 1983. At the time, these were the new kids on the block. They were touted as being better than the olds ones. They actually lived up to their press, too. I hope this helps a little.
