1995 Humanitarian Pouched Meal (HPM)

Post by steve1989 »

I found this very strange (alternative?) to the ever-familiar Humanitarian Daily Ration (HDR) - the HPM.

I've found no information whatsoever on this thing - obviously not Kosher/Halal friendly like the regular HDR's - I see the one in this picture is pretty old too. Maybe about 20-22 years old? If the 5086 indicates a DoP, I would guess March 1995.

Anyway, it's on sale on Ebay right now. No idea what anyone could do with 'em (along with the other junk in the lot) - but still felt it was worth sharing.

Cool find, Steve! Very interesting. The graphic of the person eating looks very much like the one of the official HDR. I'm curious if anyone has any clues as to this one. It's certainly not Halal being a pork patty, that's for sure!

I found that link about saying:

2) In 1993, vast numbers of Cubans and Haitians were rescued from boatsand ships; many of these people were taken to the US Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay,Cuba pending resolution of the political situations.
(3) Because of a water shortage crisis, the dining facilities were only able toprovide two meals a day to the people. Thus, a ration similar to the HDR was required, except the meals contained one meal per day rather than the complete day's food

I remember getting some of these back in the day like (1995-96ish)! I think they came in a a regular brown bag, but I can't remember what else was in that bag...

Thanks guys!

Well parafireboy, that was the first thing I saw too - that certainly wasn't halal friendly. It was a strange matchup seeing the "food gift of the US" graphic on a pork entrée..!

Wow - that is a great little tidbit of info there Housil! Thank you for finding that. So it was part of a 967 calorie meal - not very much food.

Hey Cavguy, did the main brown bag have a specific "HPM" label of sorts on it? That is really cool - it would be neat to find one nowadays but I'll bet they are rarer than hen's teeth.

Steve, to be honest I cant remember for sure what the bag looked like... I seen to recall it being a but darker in color than the regular MRE bag though & I think the labeling was also different, as in maybe it was totally different than the one of the brown MRE bag.

Ken, I checked out your post earlier too. I can't remember for sure if mine looked like yours or not, there is however a really good chance it did. But for some reason I am thinking the one I had was a darker brown and had different labeling...
