German EPA Hartkeks

Post by SentientTootsieRoll » Thu Apr 20, 2017 2:52 pm

A few weeks ago, I ordered some German rations from BlackDogBob. I was mostly impressed with them, although the entrees had that chemical MRE taste to them. That's not really a bad thing for me, that taste actually makes me feel a bit nostalgic quite honestly.

One thing I really enjoyed were the crackers or "Hartkeks" if you prefer. They had the perfect tone of sweetness to them. I think they'd be great to store away for emergencies, especially since they're vacuum sealed. I decided to order some. I'm still waiting for them in the mail. Would anyone happen to know if these are the same thing? https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/ ... 20-g/23868

I can't wait to receive them! :D

If I remember correctly, the keks you linked too are "softer" in texture than the keks in the EPA. The crackers in the EPA are usually extremely hard, and have a slightly sweet taste. The keks in your link are going to also have a nice sweet taste too, they are just going to be much softer and easier on your teeth!

The ones you linked are the exact ones that come in the current post-2014 EPA.
I really dislike them, they changed the hartkeks from an really tough and sweet biscuit like keks, to an really soft and not so sweet "Butterkeks"

As Eistee said, the "old" Hartkeks (we called them "armor sheets" ) were these (bottom):

The current ones have a new typ, made by the German civilian "Leibniz Butterkeks" company from the link you posted

I have to say, I really like the newer version better than the older hard version. I also found the newer "Butterkeks" to be sweet, to me, about on par with the older version. I finally got to try the newer version "Butterkeks" thanks to Eistee!

Housil, I have seen the Leibniz biscuits coated with dark chocolate on one side for sale here! But not sure about the plain ones.

Yeah, I love these things and when a package is open, they're gone! So crunchy and slightly sweet. We have an Aldi's grocery store and someone told me it's a German chain??..I've gotta see what they have!
