Norwegian Emergency Ration SF-9 ?

Post by Synthpeter » Tue Mar 14, 2017 10:00 am

Just got off the phone with my dad.
He just heard about my recent obsession with rations and I expected some negative comments, but instead he just goes:
-"I have some old Norwegian ration here that my wife got when she was still at work. Do you want it?"
[Note1: He's remarried.]
[Note2: She worked at a flour milling company in Gothenburg (Sweden)]

It looks like some kind of emergency bar. Anybody know anything about it?
He sent me a photo of it. I think he said it's from 1996 or something like that.

Hm, looks like something included in an old Sri Lanka ration.
Found this thread :)

Do you have any more information about the SF-9?
You say the MR-8 is the older version so I assume you know a thing or two about it :)
I just met my dad today and he gave the SF-9 to me. Produced in 1996.
I'm of course eager to find out as much about it as possible, so if anybody has any more info, please share :)

The sf-9 and mr-8 is the same thing. Just different years. I got older mr-8 and newer from 2003/4.
This is produced by the company Compact a/s ,now GC Rieber Compac. This is the same company that made the SP-63 stridsrasjon MRE to the Norwegian Army. This packs are the same as the cacke blocks you have in the SP-63. My father have been working with development of rations and MREs in the army.
These are made from Nato specs. Also used in humanitarian rations/civil defence rations and flight rations
You also have this version from the 70s

I'm gonna have to disagree with you, though I am basically clueless :)
Judging by the contents of my SF-9, it's different from the MR-8 and 70s version.
Looking at the photos (the ones above and here viewtopic.php?t=7495 ) , there seem to be far fewer ingredients in the MR-8.

MR-8:
Baked wheat, vegetable protein, vegetable fat, saccarose, glucose.

SF-9:
Baked wheat, corn starch, raisins, apricots, vegetable fat, oat grits, glucose, saccarose, vegetable protein, malt, citric acid, salt, flavouring.
