It's a risk! But still a chance they might be good.

Yeah, I saw those. I sent a message to the seller to see if they would come down a bit on price since they were obviously well past inspection date, especially given the shorter life-span of the HDR, but they said no.

IIRC, the life of these HDR's is about as long as the regular MRE, of course dependent on storage conditions... But in my experience its been the Halal MRE's that have the shortest (about 1 year) shelf life.

Also, I seem to recall that all the items that come in these HDR's are packaged using in the same MRE material, just a different color.

You are absolutely right, my train of thought was apparently on the wrong track, haha. I was thinking of the Halal rations, not HDRs. Yes, I agree, the HDRs I've had were perfectly fine well beyond their inspection date.

Do they still produce HDRs? It seems like all the ones I've come across were produced no later than 2010.

According to documents from Natick, it is still has an active NSN number and is available as of 1 January 2015.

Yep, I seen this back in December or January if I remember correctly..also noticed the dark TTI. Plus the seller is in the southern US and with that location you get sticky heat and humidity :/

I ended up getting a test case from this guy months ago..at first he didn't post the sticker or even know about it...when I asked he said it was dark..he said he ate it but the raisins tasted funny...I got a case for a good price from him..to see... he said they were stired in his basement for months while wirk was being done to his house so it may have been in damp conditions fir a while after he got it...i tried one..bit tangy...no the worst...shared a few..had mixed reviews..some said no good..some said was fine...haha..I think some people pallettes don't know the difference...plus they are ameriqual. .not like wornicks!

Anyway...I would stay clear of you didn't want it to be 100%.. or good for collectors. ..I think they are still being made..but all those were from the Afghan /Iraq war surplus they sold off...Maybe they haven't been as active in supporting the people's of those cities and towns with air drops anymore that frequently...probably didn't have such a huge order or surplus since then...
