A little Review of the Norwegian MR-8 Emergency ration

Post by Ymer34 » Wed Mar 15, 2017 6:58 pm

Well, lets start this by saying that im a newbie in reviews.
I bougth a case of this with wery little information, cant find much on the web. Its the same company who made the first real MREs for the Norwegian army.
These where produced between 1999 and 200X under the MR-8, this is secondhand information. Some say this was a civilian emergency ration, but on the boxes you can see the have a Nato nr.
The case i got was passed their exp date, tigthly packed 50 pc a case, smelled like the cacke bloks from the old SP-63 MRE.

Well the inner packaging was in tin/plastic foil.
Innside it was 4 induvidual packs packed in some of treated paper and packed togehter in 4.
In each pack there was 2 blocks, looks like a grainbar/cereal bar. Smells actually good, sweet wheat and grains. And it looks like the cacke blocks from the SP-63....
it is not as compact as the cacke blocks in the SP-63 MRE, a little more crubly and smells sweeter.
First taste teast was positive, no rancidity, tasted fresh actually. Taste like sweet grain, this you have to chew good so you get the taste realy good.
Cant say that i got any thirst after eating this.
I tried the other alternative with adding a little warm water and made some porridge, but i have to say i liked it better dry. Suddently the sweet taste was gone and it it was tasteless and the litte cruch it had was gone.

Well, my conclution was, this could be a great supplement when your hiking and on the move. I think it taste good and sweet.
Got some information that some of the packs can be with cocoa taste like the cacke bloks.
