Host
Re: Host
I know, I know! And I'd better since I run the site.
Yes, we run on a 3rd party host. The site ran for the longest time on Dreamhost but just last year it moved over to Linode.

I highly recommend Dreamhost. Their shared hosting is super-affordable and they offer a lot of goodies. Once you get established and feel like you need something more solid or robust, you always move it.

Considering the price and what they give you, Linode is a great way to go. You can fire up a VPS with 1 core, 2 GB RAM and a really fast connection for $10 a month and that's pretty good compared to a lot of other providers I've looked at. The biggest downside is that there's no native support for Windows Server if that's something you need. But the fix is pretty simple, just install a copy of Windows Server in VirtualBox, use a LiveCD linux distro, and ssh the /dev/sda on your local VM to the Linode one. With Linode, you'd have to load up a clean instance, with no OS installed. But for a website, a Linux distro is the ideal way to go. I know a lot of that sounds technical, but for those of you who are into computers, hopefully it made at least some sense. But for a website, a Linux distro is the ideal way to go anyway.
