Lithuanian menus 5 and 9

Brought my father for a walk and a bit of lunch by a nice little lake in rural County Clare, Ireland today.
At nearly 60 he's still well up for outdoors stuff but had never eaten a whole ration to himself, only tried a few of the snacks I've shared with him when I've been around with MREs etc.

He liked it well enough and said he'd have liked to have such things instead of just tis of soup, corned beef and spam when he did a lot of mountaineering and some long bicycle trips 35-40 years ago.

The rations come with:

-main entree
-FRH
-fold up "stove"
-fuel tabs
-coffee or chicken bouillon powder
-jam
-chocolate
-matches
-spoon
-wet wipe
-polish hard crackers
-zip tie to close bag
-bag of plain unsalted nuts
-powdered sweet beverage mix
-packet of sugar.


I had menu 9 of which the menu specific items were stewed pork with pearl barley porridge, cherry drink powder, blackcurrant jam and chicken bouillon powder (salty chicken broth type deal), almonds

The old man had menu 5 which had stewed pork with vegetables, orange drink powder, instant coffee, apricot jam, almonds . .

The beverages, nuts and jams vary in the rations depending on which number you choose.
I think the cherry drink is the best. The orange isn't bad just tastes like an orange vitamin drink. The lemon drink has a VERY strong artificial lemon flavour.
The jams or honey that come with them are delicious. As is the chocolate.
The main entrees are plain but hearty and satisfying.
The nuts are of good quality and plentiful.
The FRHs in these are excellent and far superior to a US FRH.
The folding "stoves" are a little flimsy but will work in a pinch. The fuel tabs are pretty good I've found them better than the ones I had most recently in a Polish 24hr sr-g ration.

Overall these are a great value European ration and I like to keep a few of them on hand. I've eaten quite a few of them now and plan to use more for camping and fishing as the weather improves.
I must add that while the US MREs get awesome tasty snacks and there are some MRE menus I like quite a lot, these rations feel far less artificial and over processed.


"Hand model" credits mostly to my father lol.

I should probably do more of these trips with him while he's still in good enough shape to do them, and try to get on a little better with him as we don't always see eye to eye.
He seemed to enjoy this trip though as it brings back good memories of adventures around Europe in his young days.

It worked out well. Yeah the polish SU-1 crackers are very versatile, I used them with the jam, in the chicken broth and also crumbled into the main meal pouch with the pork stew

I have a REALLY fantastic setting for a review outdoors but it'll wait until my cousin can come along and when I have a new video camera . I might bring a couple of LRPs for that one, make it an overnighter maybe

Thanks man I am saving one of the amazing Polish 24hr rations to share with my cousin for a review which we will record.
So far I have not been able to persuade any other family members to try rations.
