Since it's a US product, do you think our customs would care much?
Is it safe to put on the shipping declaration, "US issued meals" ?
How would you approach such dilemma?
Importing US issued MREs from another country?

I just don't see how ?
If the product is made in the US, then all the rules and regulations in making the product were met, the product was also FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved, must be!
Hence, by destroying or confiscating the product, they would be violating the law, not me?

Good question, here is a link to what Australia's policy's are (sorry, I know you are asking about the USA...)

In the Military when we come home from overseas we DO NOT bring back any MRE's with us, not to say it has never happened. They are pretty strict about checking vehicle too and washing them down. Though I personally never heard the CBP specifically say MRE's are prohibited from being brought back. Must say though, that I never asked this question either.

Yes I agree (with middle sentence) but why should they trust you or the person who sent them? It's not hard to copy the look of some pouch inside and replace it with something different inside etc. For that matter all MRE could be replica and they don't need to trust print on some plastic bag saying it's USA produced and issued and you are a civilian person (I presume) not govt. agency, military or anyone who has legal access to MRE's.SNiiP3R wrote:I just don't see how ?

Apparently there was some issue with the package and it was sent back to us and was literally shredded by customs. They opened all the IMP AND MRE packages and removed pretty much everything. Even the MREs, which originated in the States! We got a box back that contained empty outer packages, spoons and napkins, gum, creamer, and a few drink mixes. No mains, no sides, no sugar, no chocolate, no FSRs, basically, none of the good stuff. All this after paying over $70 for postage.
Very frustrated right now!

I will chime in with two points. The first is that the reason I am able to get the majority of the IMPs I get is because they are not allowed to bring them back into their country. Not sure if it is because of Canadian customs or if it is a military regulation. Second, I know first hand that customs will shred US MREs entering our country.

The most likely explanation for those shredded us mres is they may have come in contact with drugs or explosives some where causing extra inspection when they hit state side. Customs have trained dogs for all that stuff if they detect any trace amount the items will be completely ransacked.
