And that's exactly why I don't care to try one of the t-rat cakes - sometime later that night, you'd find a scraped-clean cake pan, an empty 2 gallon milk jug, and me....passed out on the floor from eating too much cake. :-)

this one is old,
but i acctually have some of the cakes, walnut tea cake and marble cake with toffee crumb, like said before: very delicious with milk or just plain----
looks like they bake the cakes in the metal trays, so it must be a heat resistant lacquer finish....
i cleaned an empty tray and i looks really good now -.- useful for something else ---
but i didnt figured out yet what that can be....

what do you use the empty trays for???? any suggestions??

I guess you could cook hachis parmentier (French shepherd's pie), lasagne or macaroni gratin in this kind of tray, antything that goes into the oven in fact.

I have

more than 60 "in stock" (not for sale!!)...

I love them, I brought them a couple of times to work and they will satiesfy a whole paramedic nightshift of 8 hard working guy´s with some left overs.

There are e.g.:

CHICKEN BREAST MEAT IN GRAVY
HAM SLICES IN BRINE
BEEF PATTIES IN BROTH
TURKEY SLICES W/ GRAVY
PORK RIBS, BONELESS IN BBQ
CORNED BEEF HASH
BEEF STEW
BEEF CHUNKS/NOODLES/SCE
CHICKEN W/ VEGS IN TERIYAKI
SPAGHETTI W/ MEATBALLS
SPAGHETTI W/ VEGETABLES
MEATBALLS/BROWN GRAVY
PASTA & ITLN SSGE LNKS/TOM SAUCE
LASAGNA W/ MEAT SAUCE
OMELET W/ BACON & CHEESE
OMELET W/SMOKED Sausage & Potatoes
SCRMBL EGGS W COLORING
POTATOES,SWEET,GLAZED
RICE ORIENTAL
POTATOES W/ BACON PCS/SAUCE
BEANS W/ RICE & BACON
APPLE DESSERT
CHERRY DESSERT
BLUEBERRY DESERT
POTATOES, MASHED W/ BRN GVY
PORK & BEANS
POTATOES/DICED W IN SAUCE
White Rice

and some more avialable...

We had the apple dessert last week, whole apple slices - not apple sauce like in the MRE´s - with a flavor of cinnamon. Delicious :P
I also had omlets yet, the turkey was pretty spicy. The creamed ground beef and corned beef hash are my favorites.

Recomanded is to heat them up in hot water for 40 min. in it´s container. At home, open the tray and fill it in an ordernary pot and warm it up.

The T-18 cakes like the coffee cake or the walnut tea cake are still crispy - from the sugar... but also very delicious!!!

My favorit:

Cinnamon scones or - swirls

My last birthday I opened a "Spice Cake with Vanilla Crumb" and a "Chocolate Brownie": Both tasted excellent! :D The spice cake reminds me to the good old "Cinamon Nut Roll" from the MCIs! By the way: Do everyone know, how the MCI "Date Pudding" taste? I´m too young, I never eat one:(

Best wishes mreheater72

I need to check on the shelf life of T-Rats but they might be good for feeding my elderly parents at home. We got something from so and so's kitchen in Snellville GA that reminded me of that. Rice and Chicken is one of them; it is UNcooked. Thus the idea.

I have seen dining facilities (mess halls for us old guys) that did not have the assortment and volume you do. That is quite the collection. Thanks for sharing the photos with us.
