Re: Military guys/gals what was/is your favorite mre menu?
My first one was "escalloped potatoes with ham" (early 90's production), so I became kind of attached to that one for sentimental reasons. Also of the same era was the ham slice, which I liked as well, especially since it came with escalloped potatoes (noting a trend here, haha).
We always had access to a dining facility, so I didn't have very many MREs during my service time (late 90's-early 2000's), but some of my favorite more recent production ones are the SW beans, meatballs in marinara, and maple sausage. There really aren't too many modern ones that I really despise, though I'm not a big tuna fan, so I guess just that one.

Thanks for the input. This is exactly why I wanted to do this. Because everyone has a different meal they like/dislike. Thanks again for answering my questions. Got any cool mre tricks that you do?

Glad to help. Hmmm, I don't really have any tricks or tips, other than adding some salt to the FRH to boost effectiveness (which I learned here in the forums). That is the best MRE tip I think I have ever heard.Oldsmokey wrote:Got any cool mre tricks that you do?

I always loved the MREs with chicken, along with any kind of poundcake and the chocolate covered cookie bars.

Did you mix anything up or make up your mre's any different than anyone else? I'd like to hear anything you used to do with them. Did you have one that you really disliked?

About the only thing I did was save coffee and cocoa beverage powder to combine with the creamer and hot water to make mocha. Sometimes I put peanut butter on the poundcake as well.

I hated the dehydrated stuff from the 1980s MREs except for the fruit, and I also hated the nut-cakes from the 1980s MREs.

?? The maple nut cake was probably the best dessert ever invented......next to the Oatmeal Cookie Bar.rationtin440 wrote: and I also hated the nut-cakes from the 1980s MREs.
