2014 UK 24hr ORP, Menu #11- Part 4: Supper

Post by BTemple » Sun Nov 06, 2016 7:19 pm

Part 4: As a reminder, this UK 24hr ORP was sent to me as part of a trade by a great ration reviewer from Scotland who proudly served his country in Iraq! You can see him on YouTube as SCOTSMAN 1984. He sent me the actual ration itself as well as some older UK ration items and also a bunch of local Scottish food from around his area. In return I sent him a couple Canadian IMP's, one of which he has already reviewed on his channel on YouTube.

Finishing up my UK 24hr Operational Ration Pack this evening. Having the Beef Goulash and Plain Rice as the main entree. Then there's the BBQ Peanuts as a side and Fruit Cocktail for dessert. Also some Tobasco to go with the entree and some sweets and gum to end with.

Once again, plain rice and beef goulash as the main entree. It certainly doesn't look like the goulash we make here in Newfoundland, although that's probably not a surprise, I'm sure most countries who make a "goulash" have vast varieties. Prepared them side-by-side at first and then mixed it all up with some Tabasco thrown in. This was absolutely delicious. The potatoes were a nice addition; we usually use pasta as the starch in goulash here. The goulash also had caraway as its main spice, which was certainly noticeable and not something I'm used to tasting. The beef itself was also slightly different than what I'm used to. Here we use simple ground beef, but this goulash had small pulled pieces of beef, which made for a nice flavour and texture.

I would normally say I'm not a huge fan of BBQ flavoured things, but these were perhaps the best peanuts I've ever had. Nice crunch on the outer shell and perfect BBQ seasoning. Not spicy or anything, but there was just the faintest kick to them.

The Fruit Cocktail was interesting to say the least.... we have only 3 fruits present: pineapple, papaya and guava. Fruit cocktail you would normally get here, like a Del Monte, would include peaches, pear, pineapple and maybe cherries. While the flavours seemed to meld together like most tinned fruit cocktails, with no discernible individual flavours, each fruit at least had its own distinct texture which certainly helped make it all better. The pineapple of course being rather dense and fibrous, the papaya being rather mushy and the guava being a happy-medium between the other two.

Next we have the two remaining beverage mixes: I wouldn't call myself someone who likes cherry flavour in any way, but this sweet cherry drink mix was fantastic. Next, I LOVE lemon, and this drink mix didn't disappoint! Perfect tangy taste and not sickly sweet. Wish I could buy a whole pallet of just the beverage mixes from the ORP's.

Lastly, to put the finishing touches on this entire ORP, we have a Lime "hard-candy" (or "boiled sweet" as it's also referred to) to finish up and some Peppermint Xylitol gum. Then for a little Balkan touch to end things off, a pack of tissues from Slovenia, of all places.

This has been an amazing ration, the best I have had thus far I would say.

Got a Russian EMERCOM and Russian Officers IRP on the way and 2 different French RCIR's on the way as well, Menu #'s 1 and 11. Also have 5 more Canadian IMP's coming down the pipe in the near future. I'm thinking about getting into video reviews soon, figure out how to work it out. Having a newborn does monopolize ones time. Hahaha

All the best everyone, thanks for popping by.

Thanks a lot! I certainly love this stuff.
Can't wait to dig into some more IMP's now.

Thsnks. The Goulash wasn't as wet as I thought it would be, but it was still perhaps the best entree I've ever had.... maybe a tie with the Canadian IMP Lamp & Vegetable Stew.
Soon to lose its place as #1 on my list soon though I'm sure, with 2 different RCIR's coming. Haha
