Canadian IMP 2013 Menu #13 Chili

Post by BTemple » Fri Oct 07, 2016 4:42 pm

Second IMP I've tried thus far. Had 5 of them altogether but I traded 2 to SCOTSMAN 1984 for an UK 24hr ORP. The last one I have is Smoked Meat in demi-glace sauce. I'll be trying that one in the near future.

This one is the 2013 Chili, and first of all it must be said that the packaging of these IMP's looks a lot simpler than the US MRE's, even when some of the components are exactly the same. Overall seems like a good selection of entree, sides, snacks and drinks. Was VERY happy to see a Bounty chocolate bar in this IMP, one of my favourite bars of all time. It even looked great when it was opened, pretty much no oxidization, but alas, the coconut filling was pretty much just like sawdust..... and not even good tasting sawdust.

Dr. Oetker Grape sports drink was far superior to US MRE grape drink, in flavour and also the fact that it isn't a horrible artificial blue colour for some reason. The beverage bag has been spoken about at great length online, and yes, it's the best one you can find.

Chili was very good, especially with the added Hot Sauce, but I would have liked to see a bit more to the chili than just beans and ground beef.... maybe some peppers and onion and mushrooms would have made it even better.

The tortillas certainly added a different dimension to the meal compared to the standard bread.... went well with the chili itself and surprisingly was great with the peanut butter and jam as well.

The fruit cocktail was good but there was absolutely no difference between it and a can of Del Monte from the grocery store.

That's all for now, have a good one!

I love Bounty Bars. A friend in Scotland used to send me those.

Oh they are fantastic, one of the kind of bars I would always go for if picking up something at the gas station or corner-store. Just that when they turn bad, they turn BAD! Haha

Thanks! I'd love to be able to try every one of them eventually... although I do hate Salmon, so I'll be fine if I don't ever have that one. Haha

Great review and pics BTemple! I'm curious how spicy is the chili itself? I have issues with really spicy food and I'm just curious.

Oh the chili on its own isn't very spicy at all, and even the hot sauce isn't a really powerful spicy sauce.
