Cleaning up the leftovers review

Post by Yowie »

G'day all,
I have been lurking for the last month or so but not contributing, mostly because work is busy and the only days off I have had have been when it is raining.
Digging through my pile I found some leftovers that I thought I would try out and post.
These first are the last pieces I have from a dozen MRE's I picked up awhile ago.
After a long day of towing out bogged tractors, I felt like a quick meal
Leftover from two packs. Looks like the makings of a late dinner

Trying to make it look authentic.

This is not a great photo but this is one of the original packs with leftover accessories.

Here is what I mean about bogged tractors :?
The biggest tractor on the farm 100 Hp bogged to the axles. Lucky it was the boss who did this and not me.

It is still there, after two weeks. He borrowed his neighbours 110Hp Claas tractor and nearly got it bogged trying to pull it out. Now he is trying to organise an excavator to drag it out. Good luck
The guys who were driving this one are still wondering why they got bogged. I am not bossing the brightest sparklers in the box.

All cooked up and ready to go
Looks good nice Tortelini's

This meal was surprisingly good. The cheese tortelini was fantastic, good taste and the tomato sauce was really nice. The wild rice pilaf, was a bit bland, but ok spiced up with a little soy sauce.

Left overs part two.
A couple of weeks ago I had a day off with sun, so I grabbed some leftover RCIR components and headed off to a spot I had wanted to explore for a while. The place is called Galore nature reserve. What it is is a large rough hill that no one could grow anything on (I am in a large farming area), that was turned into a beautiful reserve. It was nice to actually see a real hill too, its very flat around here. After an hours drive this was my first view
Almost perfect.
Almost perfect.
Right at the top, there are wood BBQ's, gas BBQ's, picnic area's walks and caves. I am sure there is much more, but sadly just as I sat down to eat my boss called to tell me day off canceled and to come back to load a truck  . Because of all the rain we have had it is really all hands on deck when the sun shines.
My interrupted lunch
All I ate were the crackers and the main (the boss can wait a half hour)

Lamb stew? I think

Its hard to keep saying how good RCIR mains are, but this one ranked right up in the top 3 I have tried. one of the best ever. Good pieces of meat, veges and fantastic flavour, I just wish I had more time to enjoy it.
I will be back to Galore soon and will bring a different ration and turn off my phone this time

@housil, thanks mate always good to hear from you

@sodjer Thanks mate. Yes we are coming into spring, I think the yellow crop is canola (don't quote me on it though).
The canteen cup is French, I picked it up in a disposal store after I lost my old one. It is superbly made, double thick metal with an insulation pad between the cup and handles, plus an embossed line for 200ml soups ( no more guessing)
