XMRE Military Grade MRE 1300xt 2016

Post by Daley » Fri Jul 08, 2016 4:48 pm

Hey guys! Daley here and today I have an MRE review for you, for the XMRE (civ mre). This is a military grade ration made for the general public. This is the 1300xt or 1300 calorie version.

Image

This MRE was actually REALLY good. It included almost everything you find in a normal MRE, with just very slight changes. The composition was good and all the food in it was tasty.

Cookie: The cookie for this MRE was big. It was a bit dry and crumbly but overall it was very edible and the big size made it very filling.

Dried Fruit: The dried fruit had a few different styles of fruit in it. Banana chips, papya, pineapple and some others. The banana chips were very sweet and crispy, the other fruit was almost fruit snack style. For some who does not like fruit, it was actually pretty good.

Crackers: These crackers were great, they did smell almost dough-like but they were crunchy and good. I used the chunky peanut butter for these and that tasted very good aswell. Nice and thick not excess oil or anything.

Drinks: This MRE came with lemon-lime base and coffee. Both of them were really good and mixed well, no clumps no complaints.

Chicken Stew: The main meal here was great! It had a great southwest style sauce, big chicken chunks with corn. Lots of good flavor and very filling. This was by far one of if not the best entrees i've had.

Others: Included flame-less ration heater, creamer, Sugar x2, salt, pepper and wetnap | papertowel

I have enjoyed these.
Do you have stores in your neighborhood carrying the XMRE's ?
My local source dried up. I'm wondering if retailers are pulling back from this brand ?

I agree that the Mexican Style Chicken Stew is pretty good. But those civvie ones are sure expensive. I'm paying $8.36 for genuine military, 2015 production (not inspection) date.

One thing i noticed when comparing US military to civilian MRE's, is none of the civilian MRE's have a proper side dish to go along with the main.
Some civilian brands like XMRE have pretty much everything a US military MRE has, except a side dish :?

I agree about the side dishes. I have several cases of the MRESTAR brand MREs and although very tasty entrees, there are no sides. I have not tried the XMRE ones yet.

Rocky, do you have gun/survival shows in your area? I just paid $35 a case for 2015 production date cases of genuine MREs. Last year I paid $45 per case for 2014's.

Hey shawker71, yes you're right about the MRESTAR brand they are very tasty. Many of the international MRE's also don't have a side, the total amount of calories is really the bottom line.

You are right with that. My favorites so far are Lithuanian and they are filling and delicious but quite Spartan.
