MRE Chicken with Tomatoes and Feta Cheese

Post by Daley » Mon Jul 11, 2016 12:08 pm

Hey guys! Daley back with another MRE review. Im starting to settle in nice and find my groove. So lets dive right into the next one.

VIDEO REVIEW:

First off this MRE was dated in 2014 even though it looks older. Something that caught my eye is that it came in the MRE bag, but then there was ANOTHER bag inside of that. Not sure what was going on there but it was weird. Following my normal review layout lets get into the food.

Raisins Osmotic: Not 100% sure how these are different from regular Raisins but they seem to be a bit more on the juicy side. They tasted just fine and we edible.

Vegetable Crackers: The crackers in this MRE were great. They had a good veggie taste and had a great bite to them. I used the jalapaneo cheese spread on these and it was great. No complaints or issues here.

First Strike Bar (apple cinnamon): This thing was cool, not really a fan of the favor but it was great idea. A big chew bar to fill you up and give you some energy. Little bit on the grainy side but overall a cool thing.

Reese's Pieces: Candy candy candy, they held up well and tasted just like they should have.

Chicken with Tomatoes and Feta: This was almost like a soup or stew. It tasted GREAT and smelled good too. A good chunk of chicken that was easily taken apart to stir in the tomatoes and cheese. No complaints here, I thought it was great and wanted 2nds. Great entree.

Overall: This MRE went together alot better then the last. Loved all the parts of it and was surprised how good the entree was. I cant think of any complaints for this MRE.

Ameriqual has "double bagged" their meals for about the last 10 years, I think. It may add to longevity and freshness, but time will tell.

The cardboard sleeve replaces the old box the entree came in. You are supposed to slip it over the FRH to help insulate it.

Nice review video, sir.

I received one of these MREs recently, there weren't many menus on offer and I plumped for this one as it sounded interesting and I had an urge to try the crackers with cheese and jalepeno spread - as you say, the crackers and cheese was sublime.

However the entree...

I was looking forward to the chicken, it felt like a good solid piece of meat, albeit small, and the combination of Chicken with feta and tomatoes was unusual and intriguing. So off to the flameless heater it went.

Well, once I had opened it, it smelled not very appetising. Smelling closely of a plate of sick (which, to be fair, it resembled). I tried it, as you did, I found the breast of chicken to be tough and dry, really needing the sauce to moisten it. I found it edible, but a depressing experience. I could not take the cheesiness with the chicken, it was really overpowering, the tomato barely came up for air in the mix.

I had no ill effects afterwards so I must assume it tasted like the manufacurers intended, it's just not for my palate I guess.

In fact the worst thing I have had from a Rat Pack ever.

Do you mean 'C' Rations?

Sorry not to get your reference.

I was so disappointed in this entree, I questioned my desire to try out more menus.

I know I'll not be trying this one again!

I believe he was referring to Country Captain Chicken. One I have never tried but would love to just for the kicks of it.

Right, "CCC" is Country Captain Chicken, the No1 worse ration (except for Mrs Housil, she loves it)

Ah, OK.

I have just read a few threads about CCC! I understand the reference now.

I think neither of them look appealing. The Feta Chicken has, at least, the advantage of being a solid piece of chicken breast as opposed to a recon, but I still wouldn't eat another one.

If I ever get hold of a CCC I can post a comparison, but I'm not looking forward to it!

I actually used to like the CCC, the one I don't like is the cheese & vegetable omelet! That one is nasty!
