I agree with this 100%. I was so disappointed when I tore into a newer one of these and found the components all....wrong.
The blueberry granola in the older ones was delicious. And really filling. With the nut raisin mix instead of oatmeal it just doesn't have thay stick-to-your-bones fillingness. I also preferred the apple butter or jam over the cheese spread. Cheese just isn't very breakfasty to me.
But, still, one of my favorite rations. Great pics!

Whoa! I had no idea there was such a big difference between Sopakco and the other two! I should try to get some to compare.
At the moment I have Maple Sausage MREs from Sopakco,Ameriqual and from Wornick too. Sopakco is from a 2014 case but the date code is 3340, Ameriqual's code is 4217 (or so,I'm not 100% sure) and the Wornick's code is 4050. I took some pics of both the Maple Sausage and the Pork Ribs several times for comparison but I don't have them all on my comp now. These are the latest I could find. There is one from 2010 too.

I had or have Pork Ribs from 2010,2012,2013,2014 from different manufacturers.Ameriqual from 2010 and 2014,Wornick from 2012 and from 2014,and Sopakco from 2013.
Side dishes also have different calories.

see that is pretty informative, i always just assumed some blind people on a assembly line in one location were packaging them. it makes sense that would have multiple suppliers

Why is that? I would guess the military kept getting complaints about various MREs? I know some fare a lot well compared to others.
Good luck and may your rations stay unspoiled!

Well they frequently did online studies and surveys. I can only imagine trying to make a more satisfying ration or wholesome if you, will but it seems like they just jumbled up menus.
I still think our 24 hr ration isn't as good as some countries but for what they want it to be, "food on the go" it seems like it works.

Thanks for posting those comparison photos woodland. Very interesting! And, how funny is it that the smallest Pork Sausage Patty (2.6 oz.) is in the BIGGEST box/sleeve!
