That's great info, thanks!

That would be great for use in a boat, camper, or even an ATV or golf cart. You can also buy a lighter socket with large clamps to hook directly to a battery if your vehicle doesn't have a lighter socket of its own. These days, cars no longer have ash trays, and the socket is called a utility outlet.

I'm going to look into one of those, because I usually take an MRE along when fishing, and if I eat off the tailgate, that would be a better way to heat my entree than an iffy FRH.

24 to 12 volt conversion. Pro Tip: Don't buy the cheapest replacement cigarette plug. Will save you from buying a piece of junk and the right one. A few more days and this project will be "Ready to Eat". Will post some follow on pics.

Cheers!

New right out of the plastic and the box. Doesn't get any better than that.

Definitely a good tip. I had actually gotten about halfway done soldering the new connector on when I decided to get a little more heavy duty plug. No sense in putting a cheap, fragile end on a piece of military-grade equipment. I look forward to hearing how it works for you.

These ration heaters remind me of toasters. Which makes me crave French toast for some odd reason.. :|
Good luck and may your rations stay unspoiled!

We had a little tour yesterday and I had a MRE with me I want to have for dinner, "cooked" in the heater.
But after that lunch:
