IMP 14 Menu 12 Chicken Cordon Bleu
Hey guys! After the rather horrible day I had today, I decided to end it on a good note by eating another IMP 14, this time the menu #12, Chicken Cordon Bleu. To add to the meal, I popped the top on a Natural Brew Root Beer I found at a Lowes Super Market here in Boone NC.
Before I get too far into the review, many of you know that I really enjoy these IMPs, and this one was so good I am now debating with myself as to which of the 14 series I enjoy the most. Still need to try the Chicken Cannolloni. As many of you know, I will be stepping off into the Smoky Mountains for a three day solo trip over one mountain, down to the valley and up to the top of the next mountain before turning around and coming back to the campground I am at tonight. With that in mind, I decided to go "Old School" with tonight's meal. Armed with a stack of wood, a 1/2" x 6" Ferro Rod, a K-Bar Parangatang, my Light My Fire Fire Knife, and with the help of my two faithful dachshunds Helga and Kramer, I began the task of preparing dinner.
First, I used the Parangatang and one of the logs as a baton to split one of the other pieces into kindling. When I go on solo treks into the woods, I go "minimalist", so fire starting from scratch is the only way to go for me.
After getting the fire going and the water boiling in my pot for the main and in a cup for the coffee, I decided to get started with the sliced pears. While I was mildly disappointed to see only four slices, it was a nice change from cubed pears and they were rich, sweet, and very juicy. I always chuckle to myself when I see the fruit box labeled as dessert. Lol
Next I mixed the coffee, this time a Caramel Latte, with the hot water, added the whitener and sugar, and sat back to enjoy a good smoke and watch the sun begin to set behind the mountain I will be hiking over tomorrow. I much prefer the Nescafé coffee mixes they provide in the IMPs to other rations I have tried. The caramel latte was very rich, frothy, and super creamy. It had a lightly dry aftertaste, but once the sugar and whitener was added, that went away.
When the main was getting close to being done, I went ahead and opened the hamburger "pain" bun and added the peanut butter and the honey. (Guys, if any of you try the IMP 14s and luck up and get the raspberry jam and decide not to eat it, please remember me with a kindness to you heart and send it my way. DO NOT THROW IT AWAY!). I also mixed up the lime energy drink and the Garlic Mashed Potatoes.
The Peanut Butter, as always, was super creamy with a nice sweetness to it. This time the honey was not crystallized and WOW was it good. Usually, the hamburger bun is moist and buttery, while this time it was a little dry.
I did not eat the Soldier Fuel Bar. It went into my kit for the three day solo. It will make a great early breakfast Wednesday.
To make the garlic mashed potatoes, you simply add water to the fill line. Do this with caution as the bag gets hot quick. It was a little difficult getting everything stirred and mixed in the bag, but the end result was an explosion of wonderfully delightful tastes. I ate half the potatoes before the main was ready.
What can be said for the main? Wow! Great! Perfect! Joyful! A sensational mixture of creamy herbs, sauce, chicken stuffed with ham that left my stomach craving just one more bite when it was gone! I mean, wow! It was hella good with an emphasis on phenomenal! It was a large piece of chicken that had been artfully stuffed with ham and cheese. Guys, it was just plain old fashioned good!
Pics are below! I hope you enjoyed this review as much as I enjoyed eating the IMP.

Great pics and nice review. I´m, too curious about the "Cordon Bleu" (means "blue ribbon"). Usually a "Cordon Bleu" is a cheese/ham filled, coated veal "Schnitzel"
So how was the Canadian way?

Great review Bob, outdoors is always a win. This is almost my favorite review from you but then I remember famous IMP hamburgers so this goes second place.

Instead of veal they used chicken. Very moist, I cut it with the provided spoon.housil wrote:Great pics and nice review. I´m, too curious about the "Cordon Bleu" (means "blue ribbon"). Usually a "Cordon Bleu" is a cheese/ham filled, coated veal "Schnitzel"

So far, all of the IMP 14s have been restaurant quality. Except for the hamburger. It tastes flame grilled.Yowie wrote:Another great review Bob,

I let the dogs lick the sauce off the plate when I was done. (Don't tell my wife, lol)
