So here is the non Military, non-Rations excursions part.
There was Germany´s second biggest castle ruin pretty close so we did a little trip to that place. We drove the way,
Hitlers Autobahn "Strecke 46" was planned. You can still see the remains.
The signs say "Planned Strecke 46 "
"Strecke 46" towards the
castle ruin "Burg Homburg" (I can highly recommend to visited that page I linked, very great virtual tour!)
Had to walk...
Entering the castle where the drawbridge was
Built in 1038 - so almost 1000 years old...
Walking towards the outer baily to the inner baily
Remains of the chapel
Note the thickness of the outer wall! My buddy is tall 6,3 ft (1.9 Meters) so the walls where 6.6 feet
Kitchen, knights hall and 4 story main house
Note the clearance of the door, how small/short peoples were back these days
Each "notch" holds a wooden beam where the floor was made on so you can count 4 stories here
I hope you enjoyed it, I took 500 pictures and it´s always hard just to share a small selection.
