Your review is just fine. May you do many more!
Some of us are "chili heads" for whom the entire packet of red pepper is considered only a mild addition to MRE entrees. But I admit that there are folks with tender tongues, due to cultural background. In Thailand, they wean babies on stuff hotter than that. Truly.

I know that RockyRaab and I are already pretty well known as the "hotheads" on here [at least as far as hot sauces go...], and I am always surprised when I hear people say that they don't like hot/spicy foods. I know the DOD tones things down as far as the actual meal paks go, but I have to warn you guys that you might be passing up on a really good thing.
THOSE RED PEPPER PACKS ARE NOT THE WHOLE WORLD OF HOT STUFF. Personally, I think the included, plain, powdered red-pepper or McIlhenny's Tabasco are absolutely the WORST ways to add to the flavor of any meal, let alone an MRE. All they add is heat and burn.
Texas Pete, Cholula, sriracha sauce, and Tapatio add heat and "nuance" to the flavor. That's why they are always in my cook kits.

Re: MENU 1 Chili with Beans (2014)
I can understand someone likes this but here I only know few people who eat hot spiced food like salami, hungarian gulash, fish stew etc. But if I give this red pepper someone random on a barbecue party I could bet that would start a fight after first taste
P.S.
BTW massive offtopic but the world is small: I won Rc Gusto's giveaway - first f'n time I won anything in m life, and now I have one of MRE's that came from your basement. So thank you and thanks Rc Gusto who kindly sent to old continent the menu I have chosen (said please please) as spoiled winner (to awoid getting chicken menu).
I love this community, everyone is so frendly and calm that two words would came into my mind if someone asked me about mreinfo guys, friendly and calm guys.

Thanks for the really detailed review. I always love it when there are date codes and specifics like that and I thought it was hilarious that you refer to trying something potentially spoiled/risky as the Steve method. Speaking of hot - in one of my last trades with Steve1989 he sent me some Ghost Chili Powder he picked up locally down there in Florida and WOW. As much as we like our spice over here I hear that India, Indonesia, the Philippines, etc all have us beat

Re: MENU 1 Chili with Beans (2014)
I was traveling with my son on a little overnight getaway to Helena, MT a few days ago, so I packed along a 2012 DoP chili with beans MRE for quick and easy dinner in the hotel. I followed the suggestion of mixing the cornbread with the chili, and you are right, it is quite good!
