2011 Beef Pot Roast with Veggies MRE

Post by elandil » Mon Feb 08, 2016 7:58 pm

Ok, Saturdays lunch was great, how about the next days? So my Sunday Selection was Menu 19, Beef Pot Roast with Vegetables.

Image
Still sealed pretty tight. good deal.

Image
Marble Pound cake, cocoa powder, crackers, and Chocolate Peanut Butter

Image
Accessories, AppleSauce, and Main.

Main still shows a pretty good vacuum.

Diablo coffee, cream and sugar.

So, did one of my favorite things when I've had this menu before....spread the chocolate PB on the Pound Cake.
Image
Cake was very crumbly, and had that dried texture that said "I'm Edible, but not fresh...Eat Fast!" The PB took a little kneading, but did come together. Still had some strong PB tastes in some bites where others were more chocolaty, so some separation had occured, but nothing more kneading couldn't have taken care of.

One thing I noticed, this ration pre-dated the horizontal tear tabs. All it had was the two vertical cuts. Of course, Swiss army took care of that issue ;)

Still one solid hunk of meat, with very distingusable veggies. And suprising, I actually found pieces of whole mushroom towards the bottom. It held together really well. However, not sure if it was the crushed crackers I added or the age, but before I took the first bites, I noticed something smelled slightly off. Not enough to stop my eating, but enough for me to notice.

Decided to do a little different with the beverage powders. Decided to follow GunDog's lead, and make Ranger Pudding. I hate to admit it, but I had never made it before. I always was glad to see the cocoa to make Camp coffee, and since I was already coffee'd up, decided to go for it. Grabbed a couple of styrofoam cups, used one to hold the water, and the other for mixing, so there would be a good contrast to show. It definately was interesting, almost like a cross between a Mocha Brownie Batter and Chocoate Cake Mix. Very sweet, definately a caffeine/sugar rush.

All in all, it held up ok. Not quite as good as the spaghetti, I will admit I did have some belly twinges for a little while after eating. Not sure if it was because of off product, or just the sugar crash, but it definately gave me a tweak. Still a good meal. ;)

Chocolate peanut butter?! This is earth shaking news to me. Do want!

Thanks for sharing! I've always enjoyed this menu. I can't say I like the chocolate PB though. It tastes good, but it's a little too sweet for me, and I'd rather have the cheese spread. I can deal with it though, because the entree makes up for it with this one! :D
