Mess hall/canteen tray wanted.......

Post by Vlaanderen » Mon Dec 28, 2015 5:38 pm

Hi to all,

After watching the videos listed on the forum, I've noticed the use of what I call "Mess Hall" or "Canteen" trays. ( Check out Elandils videos. ).

I've looked on E-Bay, but the postage is way out of sight to here in the U.K. Anyone any nearer to my island able to help?, would like one in stainless steel if possible, but melamine would be O.K.

Regards, Norman.

Hi Elandil,

Sincere thanks for your info, Amazon is not a place I think of, possibly an "age thing" :D .

Certainly looks the part and at a fair price, ordered and should be with me in a few days, although no rush at the moment to be used as we have been encountering three weeks of relentless rain and severe floodings here in the North West. We are lucky at home as we are on high ground, have been using my Ex Army Landrover 4x4 pulling people to safety, a different Christmas all round.

If it doesnt work out I have a second metal tray that I don't need, I got it for a good price and can ship for whatever the actual post cost is. Only catch is that from here in Canada to the UK it seems to take up to 6 weeks for the slow boat, cheapest option.

As the Rolling Stones once told us," You can't always get what you want, but you'll get what you need".

Sometimes you get what you don't even need... Name-not-found's contributions to my stash were the result of my being declared the "winner" of a drawing he held for a US stainless steel mess tray. All the other things I have mentioned recently were the little gifts he threw in the box.
I'm sure the trays are ideal for the purposes of those working in the mess hall in terms of the durability, easy cleaning, etc. I also seem to remember the guys in Vietnam used to pilfer them as flak-seats to carry along in helicopters.
My problem with them is that they are extremely efficient "heatsinks"... Nothing short of refrigeration can cool off a meal faster than a stainless steel mess tray!
