French RCIR "Boeuf Carottes" entree

So Dec 25th, I was on duty too with no stores open.

Dinner had to be special too so I decided we go to a fancy, French canned restaurant. Image

I nuked it and Et Viola:

I got what looked like a great dish to me.

Nice pieces of carrots, cubed potatos and nice chunks of beef

The taste was great, the food had a nice texture, not "slushy" but "al dente" . The beef had a great "beef taste" and was moiste also tender .

I can recommend that place for your next family celebration :wink:

Nice review. Sorry you had duty, but it was fun to see that someone else was also "celebrating" their holiday with a ration.

The photo is amazing, Perfect for Christmas day. I hope it is a good omen
What time of day was it taken?

Next the beef and carrots look like a fine entree. Even in the can they look appetizing, on the plate like a real table meal. The close up photo of the beef appears as if they used a decent cut of beef. Have you ever prepared them in the tin? Either with esbit or boiling entire can?

Very nice review of a Boef Carottes! Quite the fancy French canned restaurant ya got there! :lol: :D

I had one of these last year thanks to rebraunjr (a fellow member of MREinfo). It was just like yours here and certainly was one of the most delicious Rations I've ever had. Looks like you had an enjoyable experience with it too - and what better way to celebrate Christmas than with a good Ration. ;) I did the same ate a nice Ration last night and will share pics here.


I find your line of work to be very admirable, and even more so you serving on duty during Christmas time. :)

Beautiful first picture - I think it was more than worth sharing. I am actually going to save it so I can show my family because it is such a genuinely nice photograph.

I will keep my eye out for this entree and if/when I find some, I'll make sure to get a few extra to share with my buddies here. :)

Haute cuisine, nice. What kind of price is a tin like that? at 300gm thats close to 3/4 pound, seems fairly good amount of chow.

Hi Housil,

Another interesting review and photo's.

I had the Boeuf Carottes earlier in the year, exactly as your photo's and tasted great. With my French RCIRs I transfer the contents to my mess tins, I find the heating easier in a larger cooking vessel than the issued tins.

Paul - RCIRs are usually pretty cheap - under $20. The problem is always the shipping, which usually exceeds the cost of the rations and then some when coming from Europe.

Right, 300Gramm ist 0,66lbs. I got a nice "batch" from Ebay.de, 16 cans for just €25 ($27) :D
