Ukrainian Ration ~Green Bag Type~

Post by gundog4314 » Thu Apr 02, 2015 7:36 pm

I figured I would share this with you all prior to my youtube review. I've seen this here in the forum but never knew what was inside of it. Looks to be better quality then the old type I reviewed awhile ago.

I'm eating the last can out of that right now, after waiting a good month or so after eating the rest. I found the whole thing to be extremely poor in both quality and content; they even had the exact same red can of kasha for two of the meals. It didn't come with any utensils, either.

That said, the canned food was generally better than in the old ration....sort of. I'm saying this after failing to eat more than two bites out of two of the cans in the old ration.

I tend to agree with you. It definitely isn't fine dining by any regards. Just enough calories to get a guy through the day. You can see why the UA has been scarfing down MREs when they get them.

Okay all, here's what the stuff looks like. I have to admit the best part was the Porridge. The only real criticism I'd have is the oily film the food leaves in your mouth once you've finished eating. A stick of gum in each pack would have gone a long way. Cheers!

What a fantastic review - thanks for sharing gundog! Too cool!

I want to try one of these Ukrainian rats soon - what was that Pate' like? Looks rich!

I hear ya on the greasy feeling after eating. I've gotten that from 3 different IRP's with different DoP's, and also any of the Pork or Beef Entrees in Lithuanian Rations.

Those are some nice close-up photos. Totally satisfying to any curious viewers to where we feel life we're short of smelling the food!
That big hunk o' meat in the 3rd to last photo is pretty neat - seems like they follow the Russian IRP formula of 1 can of solid meat & fat and one can of meat & porridge.(along with either a beef stew or pate' as well.)

Hey Steve,

Big fan of your stuff! The pate' was pretty mild. I had to wait forever to actually get it as it took about 2 1/2 months to get here. Pretty much depends how much you want to spend on shipping. I really do enjoy the porridge as it's nice and hearty not to mention perfect with hot sauce.

Cheers

Thank you, Gundog! I love your work too! That evil Chili Con Carne you reviewed was terrific! Those beans never reconstituted well so smart choice not eatin it.. hah! 8)

The pate in this ukranian rat is now on my to try list. A nice mild pate like that is always welcome on a hike.
I've had pork pate' in an RCIR, and one in an IRP, both were so pleasant! I had a Dutch 24hr rat's pate and it was super rich and filling. Coupled with being on Biscuits-Brown.. i was in heaven!

As for shipping times from those parts, i got an IRP for 30 bucks free ship in January, recieved it mid-March! Thankfully it was a-ok and untouched by customs.
So yessir, those international rations can take a minute to get!
