this guys claims that sopakco told him MRE's last indefinitely
"Most sellers state that the meals will last 10 or 11 years. To find out for sure, I called SOPAKCO, the company that packages Military MREs, who told me that actually, the MREs will last indefinitely as long as they are stored properly"

Wow - for that MRE auction, the guy actually got $40/case with the $30 flat shipping. I hope he had to ship it somewhere way, far away so he didn't make any money on shipping.
As for those Heater Meals expiration date...if someone waits more than a few years to open those things, I'll bet they're going to be very surprised!

There's a guy on ebay selling cases of imp's in 2 different auctions. The starting bid on them is Around $68 with $72 for shipping and handling
I know shipping is not that much from canada.

$72 shipping? Yeah...right. If he wants that much, it had darn well better be shipped overnight.
A while back on the forums (heck, it might even have been in this ebay asshat thread), someone said that excessive shipping was against ebay's policies - something about using shipping to cover "fee recovery". I actually tried to track down that rule but couldn't find it. Can anyone else find that rule?

Now, OK, its not the sellers fault he has a moron of a bidder (its just annoying, why cant I get bidders like this rather than have to sell a slightly old but high end Sony DVD player for $10 which is what usually happens??!!). Maybe shill bidding going on there too, but hey-ho. Seing as the auction has 6 days left, if that bidder doesn't sober up we could be seeing a $200 case of MREs here!
If he's smart he'll notice the sellers other case auction with the buy-it-now still available. Only $170 including postage lads.

Sad thing is, he'll probably get that much too. MRE cases are thin on the ground in the UK right now. I guess it will either go one of two ways - we'll see a massive surplus coming our way next year, or they will become a real rarity. I've been seeing individual pouches going for $20 + postage recently. Its army food, not Star Wars collectables people!!

Welcome to the forums, modplod.
It's funny you should mention that auction because it this morning and when it had a buy-it-now on there (for $170), I kind of did a double-take and said "what?!". I saw it was in the UK so I figured MREs were hard to get over there and maybe this guy was just hoping some sucker would pay that much.
What I like even better is that the guy ripped off his MRE picture from my website. Of course, I don't really mind people "borrowing" pictures like that as long as they don't claim they're a picture of the actual MRE for sale.

Hmm, thought that picture was a bit too 'professional'. As I say, it just really narks me about ebay that you see idiots falling over themselves to buy crud ('get free drinks from a coke machine' scams, people reselling sim-cards every time a mobile provider gives them out for free) yet whenever I try and sell something in good 2nd hand order that cost me a bomb I get shafted AND I'm too honest to say 'oh sorry its broken' or whatever to the winner with the $5 winning bid on my 300 CD multichanger!!
Er, sorry about that further rant!! Yeah, MREs are a bit rarer over here but even so, these kinds prices just defy logic. I've never seen them any cheaper than $10 (£5) a pop in all honesty, and the one time I paid that it was for a very fresh box straight from a base in Germany which were in A1+ condition, plus I knew the middleman wasnt exactly making a packet himself. Notice the pathetic inclusion of the 'SAS' in some sellers descriptions. For the last time, all UK military are fed the same regardless of outfit. (Ok certain units may take the lightweight version nearly every time almost by default but thats not my point!). And don't forget 'Extras' fans, SAS really stands for 'Super Army Soldiers'!!!
Even the French rations work out at a silly price over here after postage - and the last guy to sell me some got suspended by ebay France for selling foodstuffs - clearly a lot stricter over there. Hey-ho!
