Best. MRE. Ever.

Post by Failsafe77 » Sat Feb 28, 2015 7:58 pm

Just had what was, in my opinion, the best MRE ever constructed. The 2014 menu 24 southwest beef in black beans. I'll start with the cons because there are so few. I didn't get turkey nuggets, instead one of those "Bulls" beef snacks. I'm a fan of jerky but these.... Ehhhh. (And anyone else find the package impossible to open!?). Well that's about it for the cons! Lol!!

Toaster pastry, mocha cappuccino, and lemon bev. All A-ok!

I'll start with the side... The apples in spiced sauce, YES!!! I know what your thinking, more apples in a sugar sauce with cinnamon. No! These were unlike anything I've had. The sauce that the apples were in weren't overly sweet at all. In fact some might not even call them sweet. It was a legit spiced sauce like something you'd taste in a rum cake minus the rum? If that makes sense. Loved them!!

Now the main entree... Wow!!! The smell alone had me wanting to devour it. Big chunks of steak, corn and black beans in a sauce that did not taste processed or shelf stable at all!!! It taste delicious!! How could it get any better??? I'll tell you how... Chipotle tortillas!!! They NEED to put these in more MRES! Still soft and flexible (it was a 2014 meal) these were great! You can smell the chipotle as soon as you crack the seal.

I guess my only gripe was there was nothing to put the cheese spread on since I don't like cheddar cheese in my food. Time to go find more of these and horde them!!!

I agree, this entree is quite tasty. Last one I got was a 2012 with the plain tortillas and turkey nuggets, which are much better than the Slim Jim type beef stick. The tortillas are a winner in my book, they seem to have a good shelf life, stay soft, and have no funny chemical taste like the snack breads.

Yup, that's one of my all-time favorite entrees, too.
