Danish wet ration "Curry Meatballs w/ rice"

Post by housil » Mon Jan 19, 2015 2:50 pm

As mentioned in an earlier postingthe Danish had before they got their freezedried rations these (poor) wet rations:
FBC1.jpg
Inside just a can of commercial food
FBC2.jpg
LOT´s of food.... (570g = 1.25lbs)

As the can was expired two years ago, I was carefully to open it but
FBC3.jpg
it was "OK". No spoiled/suspicious smell.

But solid as a rock...
FBC4.jpg
All liquid became like "jelly"

After heating

I didn´t finished the dish. It was "OK", bland but a nice curry flavor but at least, nothing I need to have again. I would like to know, how should that can be heated up in the fields?! I needed a pickax to get it out...

It does not look like like a very good civilian canned meal. I am surprised Denmark chose canned rice as a field ration. :?:
How was the rice texture? What other items were provided to the trooper? Cheese? or Crackers?
I understood Denmark makes good cheese as well.
Here in the US we have had Danish ham products since the 1960's My own mother would by DAK canned Ham and other made in Denmark canned pork products. (Virginia is a big Pork producing state) So I assumed fro Danish meats to be popular they must be first class.

The rice was nice, not too soft. I did eat it with our granddaughter and she really like it - more than I did

There din´t come any crackers with it. See that link "earlier posting" to see the whole ration unpacked.

I looked at the earlier post, thanks. Is this a combat meal or a training/peacetime operations meal?

This one is a "MIDDAGSPORTION" (Lunch) while the FD ones are 24 hour.

This makes more sense to me now. Although the can is a large serving portion. It did not seem like a full days meal .
For a single meal, it is more than enough.

Right, these ones weren´t a 24hrs ration. Just a single meal.
