Oatmeal Cookie Bar circa 1985

Post by RockyRaab »

I stumbled across a dark brown-wrapped Oatmeal Cookie Bar that somehow had gotten into a bag of old hunting stuff. It's probably from the mid-80s, packed by Sterling Foods of San Antonio. The vacuum pack seemed still intact, and I thought, "What the heck..."

The bar was completely intact and smelled fine. It still had a toasted cereal taste, even though it crumbled to a sawdust consistency when bitten. All things considered, it was still fine - and I'm still fine eight hours later. I regret not taking a picture of it before I ate it. Just wasn't thinking of a review at the time, and when I did it was too late.

Amazing.

Rocky I had a 1986 bar and it to was like compressed sawdust, but the taste was still good. Almost like some WW 2 survival ration. Did you eat it all?

I'm taking pictures pretty much all day today, just dug out one of these bars:

Looks like it's either from 92 or 82:

These were one of the first MRE items I ever had. I remember getting one in the very first MRE I ever ate, on a hiking/camping trip when I was a boy scout. It was neigh unbreakable back then. I just ate a cornflake bar from the same batch yesterday and it was still excellent
