The War of the Worlds -- The First Attack

Post by jfko6 » Wed Jul 09, 2014 4:43 pm

The War of the Worlds (also known promotionally as H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds) is a 1953 Paramount Pictures Technicolor science fiction film starring Gene Barry and Ann Robinson. It is a loose adaptation of the H. G. Wells classic novel of the same name, and the first of a number of film adaptations based on Wells' novel. Produced by George Pal and directed by Byron Haskin from a script by Barré Lyndon, it was the first of two adaptations of Wells' work to be filmed by Pal, and is considered to be one of the great science fiction films of the 1950s.-Wikiepdia

Good shots of Korean war era equipment. The late model E8 Sherman tanks were cool
We loved Flying wing and her A Bomb Attack

Have some friends who saw it also in theaters and talked about its huge success. Showed it to Mom who saw it also and said the same thing you did.

Growing up I saw another Alien encounter film with my father, Hangar 18. It did not hold up so well but Darren McGavin managed to put on a good performance just as he usually does. Gary Collins, not so much. But the film still has some good elements and not having seen it in a long time remember its ending as unique. It was recently transferred to Blu-Ray and available here: http://amzn.to/TZGPHa

I haven't heard of a review yet on the treatment of the transfer.
