Dutch "Lentis w/ Beef"
Dutch "Lentis w/ Beef"
The Dutch rations never come with lunch nor dinner entrees, these entrees are usually separately distributed.
They have either the British style one in a bag or the French style in a can (that comes from the same manufacturer).
Lucky me I got a whole case of entrees "linzen met rundvlees" (lentils w/ beef).
The box was THIS sturdy, I had to cut the top open.
A single can out of the case. They are the same like the French ones, just with 400g instead 300g like the French. That´s 532kcal and A LOT´s of food. The material itself seems a little bit "softer" like the early one´s due to a thinner material.
The pulled open can, looked like any "canned lentils stew", no "special" smell
On a plate ready for the microwave...
Nice lentils and vegetables with still a great texture, also nice, little junks of beef.
In Germany, "lentils" should have a sour vinegar taste. These hadn´t. With some phantasie, they had a slightly sweet taste.

Re: Dutch "Lentis w/ Beef"
Thanks for the review housil
This looks like a nice meal, and plenty of calories!
I didnt know the lunch and dinner came separate, how many is that case meant to feed?

You'd be very lucky if you got one of these for lunch...standard lunch is simply more "Biscuit Brown-S" from the ration.
As for the lentils, they're not Dutch meals, half of our meals are French ones with a different can. But we do have Sauerkraut w/ sausage

Olli, looks very fine
! But believe me, always heat your rations pouches/cans in boliling water (if available) instead of microwaving, so they will taste better still
! There is really a difference in taste existent!

The Dutch and the French entrees/cans came from the same manufacturer. The only difference is the Dutch has 400g, the French just 300g.Unimproved wrote: As for the lentils, they're not Dutch meals, half of our meals are French ones with a different can.
You are right. When ever we heat them up it a pot with boiling water, the entrees taste much more better.mreheater72 wrote:always heat your rations pouches/cans in boliling water

Looks delicious. Here in Spain we add a bit of vinegar (don`t ask me why, I don`t know), but as I said it looks delicious.
thanks for sharing.

Same over here, we usually also add some vinegar to "lentils stew/soup" to give it a slightly "sour" taste.luis0449 wrote:Looks delicious. Here in Spain we add a bit of vinegar (don`t ask me why, I don`t know), but as I said it looks delicious.

Yep, when I cook my lentil stew always add a little of vinegar to enhance the flavor too....

"normally' every person/soldier is issued 2 cans per day. So a case feeds 10 persons.housil wrote:That case holds 20 cans.Name_not_found wrote:
