Molasse Cookies

Post by housil » Sat Nov 30, 2013 3:27 pm

As we came home today pretty late, I decide to have MRE dinner for all the family

Nothing special, just MREs but I figured out nobody did until today a "Molasses Cookies" review yet.

So:

They came with the 2005 #18 "Sloppy Joe". I don´t know if everybody is familiar with "molasses"?
We live right across a huge sugar factory so we have to smell it every day. If do you squeeze out sugar beet´s and cook that "juice" until it´s very thick, tough you call it "molasses". During WW2, molasses was used in Germany as "replacement honey" (Ersatzhonig).
So it´s a very own taste you can compare maybe with roasted malt.

Olli, thank you for your MOLASSES COOKIES review :) . I´m surprised :o they were still edible with an age of eight years, that is not self-evident for MRE cookies :!: (remember the SHORTBREAD COOKIES :!: )

I guess I have eaten them at least once, but I really cannot remember the taste :( . According to NATICK PAM 30-25 2012 9th edition they were first issued 2004 (MRE XXIV) and last 2006 (MRE XXVI), that is only for three years. I guess here we can see that they were not accepted by US soldiers, because of a weird taste :? .

kman also shows a MOLASSES COOKIE (one cookie :!: ) here:

So long mreheater72

P.S.: You are very charitable, opening four MREs (if I see right on your pics) at one day  !
