Yes, the mayo has to be pulled from these packs. I bought a few of these and noticed after about 3-4 months the mayo would leak out everywhere. So if you do have these rations be sure you open each box and pull out the mayo.
I also noticed that the bread gets hard with age and loses its taste, also the cheese spread goes bad about the same time the bread goes out of date. It is wrapped in simple over the counter plastic, so again we are presented with the problem of inferior packaging.
Mackerel with tomato sauce, Brussels Paté and coconut fruitbar were all fine and very yummy.
Cheese spread was spoiled as expected, bread still tasted like rye bread (which I don't like) but seemed to have more in common with a rock than with bread.
Some really didn't think these packs out...the chicken pasta mfg date is 30.05.2011, so less than a year of shelf life even tho most things have an expire date way beyond 3 years.

Sounds like improper storage, Heat stress will reduce the effective shelf life exponentially.
That is usually the only way things go bad before their expire date.

No, the expire date on the outside box is 01.04.2012. Main course is made on 30.05.2011 and expires on 30.05.2014.
Because of the cheese (which had an expiry date of 08.2012) the entire ration has less than a year of shelf life. Everything else was still perfect.
Indeed, considering there are alternatives for the few items with a short shelf life (MRE cheese and jam, crackers instead of bread) and most of the rations lasts much longer.
