NNF, True but this is why we have open fourms like this to disseminate information either good or bad. Also paying more sometimes does not mean your getting a great boot, could be your getting a crappy boot. To each is own but the point is what would most people use if they had to "bug out" or get somehwere in an emergency. Sometimes just jumping in the family vehicle isn't an option and you might have to load up a rucksack and hike to a safe place. Therefore what would you use if you havd to hike out?Boots are too personal to listen to any specific recommendation.
But you get what you pay for in my experience.
What would you put in your Bug out Bag?

I feel you should always be wearing shoes/boots of some kind you can walk a good distance in, i dont carry extra boots in my kit, but all my shoes have the insoles i mentioned as they help pretty much any shoe/boot

As for boots, I use the Oakley Assaults year round, snow or summer.
Have a pretty outdoorsy job, but they pull through!
A Jerven-duk would probably be great to have when you need to bug out.
Combine it with a Carinthia sleeping-bag, and you'll never freeze.
Also, layers are the bees knees for winter.

I agree. It would look mighty warm and comfortable for a bug out situation, more so than a heavy sleeping bag. Does anybody have one per se that could give us some more info or how useful they really are?A Jerven-duk would probably be great to have when you need to bug out.

Oh yes, I've been to their website and looked around. Very spendy indeed, but from what I can tell getting a Jerven duk (bag) is worth its weight in gold and something that is indestructible. I've also seen on their website them testing the Jerven bags in sub freezing Anartica and coming through nice and warm. That's pretty dependable!
Re: What would you put in your Bug out Bag?
Holy crap!!!!!!
They ask GBP 2.000...3.000!!!
They may be good, but THIS good?!?!
I would not even spend €300 for a sleeping bag and I got current issued US MSS, German Bundeswehr sleeping system etc. for less!
About boot´s, I´m using HAIX for duty (bunker gear) so I also bought me some military issued HAIX too.

That Jerven duk looks useful but for the price...I'd be inclined to find a knock off.

Good luck trying to find a knock off even on Ebay. Trust me I've tried and tried searching the 'Net, no luck. Guess its no surprise that people keep theirs because their so good. does anybody think there is an equivalent to a Jerven Duk. Housil mentioned a US MSS sleeping bag system. That's really good in my mind but quite bulky and a little on the heavy side. Good for the colder regions where snow, rain, sleet are a problem but no so much in the deserts or warmer climates. At least you can find systems on ebay that are brand new.
I did hear that SNUGPAK is much lighter and expands easier when compressed for a long time, as for warmth I have a jungle model that I use in warmer weather. It's very comfortable.

From what I've seen the Jerven Duk is made in two versions. One is basically a sleeping bag you can wear, the other is more or less a poncho.Treesuit wrote:Good luck trying to find a knock off even on Ebay.
